Can anyone provide some tips/narratives on how to explain in an in-house screener interview (to a non-lawyer HR professional) why you want to go in-house and why you haven’t enjoyed working in a law firm setting?

I went with, among other things, “in-house, my legal skills and judgment y are the most valuable things that I can add; at a law firm, generating new clients is the most valuable thing I can add. I’d rather practice law than develop business.”

Agreed

Make something up about wanting to grow your skills in new ways. Don't worry, we know the real answer. 😅

I always said that I wanted to get more invested in one company’s success and grow with them long term vs jumping between a lot of projects with different clients and not always seeing them in context

like

Talk about the "pull" of in house, not the push of why you don't want biglaw anymore.

like

Focus on one client, opposed to numerous clients. Will allow you to hone in on the client’s needs etc. and master what that company has to offer.

like

Focus on one client and expand on your personal development and skills that law firms don’t value (which will benefit the company).

I have an in house interview coming up as well. Seriously considering just being up front and letting them know I’m looking for better WLB. Bad idea?

Thank you for the advice! I’m not positive this is a job I’d want though. I’ll actually have to litigate—like make court appearances, argue motions, go to trial etc. I really don’t want to litigate anymore, but think it might open doors down the road for other in house roles as opposed to continuing to litigate at a firm.

I always said that I liked the opportunity to have one business as my client. With a firm job you don’t get to know your clients on a deep and intimate level like you do in an in house role.

I got interviewed at infosys two days back.
When can I expect to hear back from them.
Also all the questions that were asked to me were written coding questions(Write block of code) none were verbal.I could write all answers but none was 100% correct.

At last I asked the interviewer about feedback as in where was I wrong. He said at couple of places and he explained me where was I wrong.

Do you all think I will be rejected?

I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. Thoughts on making the shift?

I feel like it’s reasonable to not kill myself further to fit in more/turn things around faster at this point, but am I being unreasonable? I expect my workload to remain at this level through the end of the year at least.
