What I see from clients as the biggest challenges for managers from the manager and employee perspective is

1. Feedback especially when negative
2. Clarity of expectations
3. Being authentic

Competence, by Jack Nasher is a good book to understand how you are perceived. Books on delivering and receiving feedback help. There are also a lot of good HBR articles on those topics.

Anatomy of peace

21 irrefutable laws of leadership by John c maxwell

From Bud to Boss

How to manage yourself - HBR

Superbosses - great read on what it takes to be a great leader, which is what you should want to aspire to instead of a good manager.

I read “it’s your ship”. Funny thing is the guy who wrote it is actually a consultant now

I really liked The Making of a Manager by Julie Zhou - it specifically targets new managers in this situation.

I am in a client service account associate role right now helping AMs/AEs/Producers manage their books of business. A recruiter reached out to me with a Client Manager position. Any good recommended books on how to build a scalable product and team? I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project. I've been promoted into a management role from Dev roots, so need to learn more PM processes to be an effective manager in day job, plus would like to start building my own SaaS solution.

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

Any good books or articles worth reading on product marketing and analytics? I come from more of a technical and general product management background, so I personally feel like I lack on the marketing side. Like Search engine optimization, etc. Thank you.

I have worked my way up in Insurance for 4 years but the 1st year being an intern/front desk/admin and was promoted twice and now an account associate helping my AMs/AEs manage our Producers' books of business. I was recently approached by a big brokerage for a Client Manager position. I have imposter syndrome and don't think I am qualified because I dont know insurance coverages/mastered what a business would need for a particular industry (continued in comments..)

Are there any good movies or novels that show skill development - like follow through? Self-management? Money management? I read a lot of self help books so I know a lot of the theory, and books peppered with examples help, but I feel like most 1 paragraph examples don’t five justice to how hard it may be to change a behavior.

Hi All,

Moving out of IT consulting to Product Management side in the next couple of weeks.
The new company I will join is an e-commerce division of a leading food retail group.

Any suggestions about books/ videos that I can access to learn the basics of the retail side??

I'll switch to a startup as the only data engineer and will closely work with all the Head ofs + the CTO.

Any advice/books/... on stakeholder management at that level? Especially when things fail/discussing budgets/new hires etc.
