Can anyone shed some light on what life is like as a NSP at Kirkland? Getting that title starting as a sixth year seems daunting. Would also love to hear from people that started a family around that time and how they juggled newborns with the partner expectations or if it just the same experience as having kids as a senior associate anywhere else.

Not an NSP, but my understanding is that it is just a title. Don’t think the experience/expectations are meaningfully different from a senior associate elsewhere.

There levels of NSP with pay accordingly. If you think you’re just reaching 10th year and suddenly they’re gonna bestow equity upon you, you’re delusional lol.

It’s the same as senior associate except you get 6 months parental leave instead of 10-12 weeks. Both men and women seem to take the 6 months, though it varies for men.

Associates get 18 weeks leave. I know because I actually took it.

Starting as a seventh year* so a little less daunting

Thanks for the clarification!

It’s sixth year?

Correct. It’s when you become a 7th year in KEs billable calendar

How do firms calculate how much parental leave to provide, either paid or unpaid. Or do they just pick a number, like “yeah they can get to know their kid in a few weeks and I couldn’t possibly have that attorney out for 12 weeks?” I’m at a small firm, no FMLA or state requirement. We get four weeks paid and four weeks unpaid. Would like to push for more but not sure how to argue costs side of it.

Resigned from my job for blatant racism last week. Been a contingent worker for 6 months. The manager that recruited me unfortunately left after a couple weeks and went to another company. She however recommended me for the permanent opportunity to higher management. The acting manager came in, permanent role was posted, I applied, interviewed……manager told me they chose someone else external for the role. I could sense the manager had no intentions to hire me permanently

Crowe is hiring for quite a few positions across the US (Internal Audit, IT controls and cyber/digital security, Compliance, etc)… I’m a manager and would think some of these niche areas have great opportunity for new folks to excel rather quickly. Great flexibility and mobility policies. I’d be happy to chat if interested and get you directly in touch with the right people internally.

Why do many associates at top tier firms stay to make Partner when they can go in-house in tech and make around the same, even long term? For example, you can make near 400-550k in-house at Google, Netflix, FB with 8-10 years of exp. More senior than that in-house, it can easily break $1M.

Very Noob question: First year here that has done DD for a couple of deals representing the seller now. Essentially all I did was note whether certain agreements have change of control provisions, and if so, what the specific language is. I understand what the CoC do, but why am I doing this? Specifically, what does the buyer do with this? It seems like these provisions should trigger but nothing then happens...

I lateraled into a niche practice group in Sept 2021. I also have a 1 year old and have been mostly remote since I started - but have been keeping busy tracking towards 2400-2500 hours. That said getting to know people only remote has been kind of awkward at times (email only can be tough to decipher) although as a working mom the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Yesterday my main partner asked me to come in Thursday bc he will be there and set a time to meet. Is this good/bad?? kind of nervous!
