Hello RSM coworkers! I am thrilled to be moving to RSM into a Scheduler roll. I just found out yesterday and want to be as prepared as possible in the next steps.
So here are my questions.
How long does the background study take? I'm guessing admin staff have a study that is faster and less complicated than someone in Tax ect.
When training at home what did you need that wasn't supplied by RSM? My home office is well stocked but I want to be as prepared as possible.
Thanks in advance!
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

If you don’t have to manage kids, the trick is replicating an office location and schedule. Set aside a specific place as your office. Get up at the same time as usual, do what you normally do, and then “go to work” on the same schedule as always. Make your office as functional as you can. Don’t do anything there but work. Don’t surf, stream, or do personal email. Take breaks on the same schedule you would in the office. Turn your email and news alerts off and limit your surfing to am, pm, and lunch. And remember that the better you replicate your pre-WFH production the longer your employer can avoid cost cutting.
Set timers on your phone for 30 minute to hour increments. You must work the full time and when the timer goes off you get a short 5 minute break to stretch, take a walk, get a snack, or whatever suits you. It will build some diligence and be more manageable to sit still for that long. I also find making a to do list each morning and numbering your priorities will help give you some motivation and direction for each day. Good luck!
I use this! To help stay focused during the focus time, I also keep a notepad next to me to write down distractions. Sometimes they’re work related (“need to look into this/check on that”) and sometimes they’re not (“text friend about her new puppy.”) Whatever it is, write it down and let it go so you don’t get sidetracked. Then revisit the list during your break or when a task is complete.
I am struggling with the same thing!
Have a game plan for the day. Tasks with reasonable goals. Write them down and cross them off when they are done
I get dressed up like I'm going to the office. And don't work in bed or on the couch. Sit at you desk. Keep the TV off.
