Choosing a specialty? How do you decide what to specialize in? I love learning about all the different areas of IT and various platforms used - how did you decide what to specialize in? Have about 6 years experience and CISSP/CISA doing IT audit work. Thinking of focusing on cloud or data privacy, but what other opportunities do you see as prime areas for specialization? IAM? Networking? Thanks for feedback!!

Interesting that risk management and compliance/controls are broken out as separate things

I think it's probably dependant on the industry more than anything else. I work mostly with critical infrastructure, food, and manufacturing and honestly don't have a ton of experience outside of that (tech, financial, etc). They're getting to the point that if they're not doing real risk management they're falling behind their peers.

Tbh refer back to the subject areas of cissp if you’re looking for inspiration. The decision to specialize should come from within, and seeing you already love cyber then just keep learning and see what draws you in the most.

You can start from broader areas (like cloud) and drill down based on what you get interested in. Doesn’t hurt to also consider what makes good money in the mid to long term and aligning your passion with what is profitable

I got this off of LinkedIn. I follow a bunch of cybersecurity professionals, professors, and recruiters that post really good info.

IAM, governance, incident response, threat intelligence…and many more. But learning how to code and understand how these tools solve problems is a great way to approach anything tech related imo

I’m in the same position. Been doing PAM/IAM for a few years now but I feel I don’t really know cyber sec I just know how to install and configure a tool. Been trying to expand into other areas but I know for a fact PAM pays extremely well, so trying to find another area while keeping the same kind of pay check. Not much info on how different subcategories compare pay wise across firms

EY1, how much does PAM/IAM pay if you don’t mind my asking? 💰👀

What is the difference between an illegal Hiring Hall Agreement & Software Certification?
For example, a software company issues its own certification that its partners enforce as a requirement to work in the industry by searching that software's website for ensure applicants have certification. To legally recommend who can work, a Hiring Hall is required to be certified by the majority of workers in construction or garment industries. How is software certs able to avoid this law?

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!
