Company brings me in to make changes, takes 0 of my suggestions. Refuses to hear me when I give them the writing on the wall. Tells me it's not working out because nothing has changed, lets me go without any notice after 1 month. Is it me or are there just places out there who are just this idiotic?

What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.

I have a photographer/ videographer on my team who is amazingly talented at executing the work, but he has no larger creative ideas or vision, and totally shuts down when we try to push him. Has anyone ever successfully grown someone like this or is it a lost cause?
