Confession time: I get a weird thrill from dissecting financial statements and calculating risk.

It's a bit of a superpower in accounting, but I'm wondering if there's a career out there that's a better fit for my inner risk analyst. Insurance underwriting keeps popping up on my radar.

Anyone with experience in underwritering out there? Is it as exciting as it sounds? Does my background in financial analysis translate well to underwriting?

Currently SM at Bain (4 years post MBA) and was approached for a senior associate role in portfolio ops at a large PE fund. Been told 2.5 years to VP and another 2.5 years to director. Feels like the role is a bit junior but offers a 50% pay jump.

Thoughts on seniority? Also, any interview resources for PE portfolio roles?

I am currently working as Branch Manager (scale-2 officer) in one of the leading public sector banks and have 5 yr experience in core banking. I am having 2.5 years experience in the IT sector on vision plus as a software engineer (before joining the bank). I'm at a target uni for Big 4 accounting. I applied for and received an offer for Summer 2023 Risk&FinancialAdvisory - Technology internship w Deloitte. I'd like to get into Big 4 consulting ideally when full-time. I'm an engineering student - I'm not going to be interested in IT audit. Summer 2023 will be the summer after sophomore year, so I'll be declining the full-time return offer and I'll be looking for a different internship after junior year.

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's Master's in Management. They both have the same requirements, generally speaking, including a field immersion course that serves as a capstone in the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?

I am looking to enter big law. I had a clerkship on a state Business Calendar and am a current first year litigation associate where I have prepared for a trial, taken and defended depositions, and have extensive motion writing practice in tech, business, and employment cases. Is it a waste of time to try and make a move to big law with such few years of experience?
