Hi Fishes, I have received an offer from Barclays for AVP position. But the role discussed during interview was for Tech Delivery Manager whereas the offer letter mentions it as Tech Delivery Lead. Can you guys please suggest if it is the same role or should I request recruiter to get the role updated? Moreover it would be great if any of you can shed some light on the prospects/challenges of this role based on your experiences. Barclays Barclays global service center

Such a personal decision— I don’t think there’s a wrong answer. Personally I’d probably choose to implant the unaffected male embryo before going through another round of retrieval, but I don’t think you’d be wrong to try another round if your heart is telling you it really wants a girl.
VP, sounds like you already have a sweetheart of a son. I wish you all the best as you make this decision. Your story about how he just wants a sibling made me tear up. He’s lucky to have you and your husband and vice versa ❤️
I’m sorry you’re in this position. I know you really want a baby girl, but if you step back and ask yourself, I think you’ll know you’d rather have a healthy baby regardless of their gender. Also, it sounds like something that impacts the brain so could really impact the quality of life vs. something benign. My take would be to go with the baby that you know has the highest chance for being healthy. Good luck!
Very good points.
Luckily it would be covered with very little out of pocket cost, I feel terrible even considering this though, I’ve always been somewhat opposed to the idea of choosing the baby’s gender (for myself personally, it doesn’t bother me if others do it!). The unaffected male embryo that we have currently could be an absolute sweetheart, and if we try again we could end up with the female version of Problem Child/Dennis the Menace, just because we wanted a girl!
If you have insurance coverage and can handle another round of retrievals, I’d go for it. You still may not get an unaffected female embryo but you’ll improve your chances overall.
You’re right, we could do all of this and end up in the same position.
this sounds really hard and serious, don’t have any advice but I wish you all the best.
Thinking of you and sending love. In a similar boat, where male children are much more likely to inherit a disorder (although it does not have medical complications) and I’ve always wanted a little girl anyway. In my case I don’t have any choice, as 3 rounds has only yielded 1 viable blast, so we get what we get. Decide what is right for you.
We just got the good news that our one blastocyst was PGT normal last Wednesday, so in the process of moving forward towards implantation.
In my case, it’s Asperger’s (a variant of autism) so it’s more dealing with social issues and hubby/kid triggering each other. Still, if I had better results with retrieval, it is definitely something I would strongly consider taking into account. It was something I talked through with my therapist before I decided to move forward with IVF.
We have both always wanted a daughter, and now that we’re in the IVF process, we thought we’d have a better chance of having a girl.
I unknowingly passed on a genetic disorder to my son and found out that I am a carrier and have an 80% chance of developing symptoms in later years. Due to this, we opted for pgtm testing. (Note - I can pass on the disease to boys, and can have a daughter who is a carrier)
We just got results back. Of 4 embryos that made it to blastocyst, 2 are affected males, 1 is an unaffected male, 1 is a female carrier.
We want a girl so badly, but I can’t pass this curse on to my daughter. It’ll mean that she’ll have to conceive via IVF when she’s ready, and that she’ll most likely develop symptoms as an older adult. I feel like my options are to proceed with the male embryo, or start the egg retrieval process over. What would you do?
(Note - my son is perfect, but he needs to get an MRI twice a year to monitor his brain, and even if he stays asymptomatic as a child, he may develop the same symptoms as an adult that I will. My mother unknowingly passed it on to me, and she believes she is developing said symptoms)
I couldn’t agree more. We wanted a girl the first time and didn’t know the gender until birth, we were surprised to have a boy and maybe even disappointed for half a second, but my son is so incredible and I couldn’t picture life without him. Thinking that this boy could be anything like my first and the thought of discarding him because he’s not a girl doesn’t sit right with me. If I’m meant to be a boy mom, it is what it is! If the process is unsuccessful, my plan does allow for a backup cycle where I can start over with very low out of pocket costs.
