Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Coach
Most companies expect candidates to negotiate. Negotiating is a normal part of the process.
Coach
You can always position things in a nice and professional way.
I think most companies fully expect that candidate are going to negotiate. I think most leave a little room for negotiation personally. The worst they can say is no if you ask for more.
Coach
Okay cool, I think I’ll take this into my next negotiation.
The worst they can do is rescind the offer because you haven’t done your research at all. Fully dependent on the company, some are very strict in what they offer, and some have wiggle room.
Coach
Rescinding the offer can be pretty bad though, it’s a tough risk if you really like the job.
In my situation no you can't negotiate. Being a minority means you're likely not getting the job if you try. But I would still recommend it.
Coach
That’s terrible! I guess it is dependent on who you are.
Most expect to negotiate
Coach
Lovely, I’ll take this into the future.
