Do referrals that are submitted in internal HR systems actually have any influence? I find I can be referred by 5 different people and still I’m always rejected. I’m aware speaking to an actual person and having them send my CV to the hiring team makes more sense, but I’m just curious since I don’t always know someone to reach out to.

If a company is following basic hiring procedures, referrals should have zero impact both positively or negatively on a candidate getting hired. If you’re given preferential treatment since you were an internal referral it creates a conflict of interest and potential fines and penalties depending on who governs the company.

Why would this create a conflict of interest leading to fines?

like

Not from a random person, who doesn’t know you, why would it? The hiring manager needs someone who can vouch you’re a high quality worker.

The benefit is for the referer. They get cash if you are chosen.

like

your resume needs to pass the automated screener for skills/qualities pertinent to the job and my guess is it doesnt, so you need to update that. general mass referrals barely matter in big companies and dont help with this part of the process

Exactly, but I choose to refer people I know. Not just someone reaches out to me on LinkedIn.

Referrals help but, first you have to make through general screening for skills.

So I have a felony. I interviewed with a recruiter today who was super cheerful and nice. Once I disclosed my felony, which she already knew about since a friend referred me to her, she immediately stopped the interview and said she couldn’t in good faith move forward on my application given the nature of my offense. I explained that I had done my time, paid my fines and restitution and had the experience to become a great asset to the organization. -she suggested I look into bartending.

I’m a business/commercial lawyer with 8 years experience looking to relocate to Chicago from NYC area, while also trying to make the jump to in-house after only ever working at a boutique firm. It’s been 5 months and I haven’t had any luck applying to job postings on the usual sites (no calls, no interviews, nothing). I can’t tell if this is due to covid, the market, the fact that I don’t have any in-house experience, the fact that I live out of state, or something else entirely. Any insights??

This is not very old technology and not much studies as well.

I’m 21. Maybe I just got lucky, but working in Apple retail was an incredible experience. I was only there for 7 months, but it was enough time to know it’s a place filled with love and laughter. Walking in other Apple Store’s I can feel the energy and I genuinely believe my store was unique. Managers cared and coworkers were connected. I’m going to miss talking about Apple with people, but definitely not helping indecisive assholes try on 30 different Apple Watch bands; they can suck my balls.

Could someone help by mentioning the salary ranges I can expect?

Interesting all the noise about these PPT, my take:

The pandemic took all the upside of an IB analyst life (client meetings in person, fancy trips, suit up, worshiped at networking events) and left all the juniors with the downside (long hours, monkey-like type of job, aggressive work environment).

Not that the complaints are not sort of legitimate but you may need to revise the decision-making process that led you to accept a return offer. Specially if you were looking for less hours.
