This is interesting to think about. I think as adults we will all be exposed to stressful situations, and that’s something we all need to learn to be able to handle. But at the same time we shouldn’t have to just accept it’s normal to be constantly anxious. It’s like the difference between being situationally sad and chronically depressed. One is part of life, and the other is not something anyone should have to live with. I think younger generations are getting better at speaking up about bad situations too. There are so many things I was just taught to ‘suck up’ when I was very young in the workforce and some of those things were pretty damaging.

I believe this is a part of work, but I think there could be more education for people about how to build resilience. Resilience is a skill that can be taught and learned, however most therapists don’t focus on this and if they try, they ignore 2-3 of the 5 skills that the APA recognizes as having a large impact on resilience and beating burnout.
