We have the CSR and the Amex Plat (one held by each of us with the other as an authorized user). We've found that we get enough value out of both to keep them. The Amex basically pays for itself with Uber, entertainment, and Walmart+ credits (let alone Delta Lounge access which is a massive plus) and the CSR is our primary points card.
I suppose we technically do, but we maximize the points. My wife does the grocery shopping so she uses the Amex Blue card when she goes. I fill the car up with gas and do the Costco runs, so I have the Costco cc. We have a sapphire reserve card where we essentially put our default purchases (non benefited categories) so we both carry that card around. Our other credit cards are really for one off point sign ups/churning and keep them locked away or cancel when appropriate if there is an annual fee.
I have the Chase trifecta with Freedom Unlimited and Flex + Sapphire Reserve. Looking to get my spouse the Freedom cards once the 5% grocery offer comes back. That way we can churn SUBs and combine all the points, which will probably go to Hyatt.

I think you should have two card types instead of using the same to be able to capture more benefits. You can research and find one that would fit your expenses but don’t capture by amex, then have him use that one.
Yes, using different cards can increase rewards and benefits for both parties. The Sapphire Reserve offers more benefits for traveling together. Flying jointly in New York maximizes benefits.
