Do you consider college savings funds as part of your net worth? I can see why you would but then your net worth would decrease pretty quickly once your kid(s) go to college.

I never have counted the 529 plan on our net worth. It was never meant for us. If there is anything left afterwards, it will be a bonus.

like

I mean... what do you need to calculate your net worth for in the first place? If it’s just to stroke your ego, might as well count everything

like

Call me bob the builder

I do count it.

It’s a cash account that’s just ear marked for a future expense. I can still use it for whatever I want, there are just some rules to accessing it and tax free distributions.

like

Not sure I understand the logic of not including it. It is your money and part of your net worth. Do you include the money in your emergency account? You might use it for an emergency

like

One way or another I’m going to help my kids pay for college. I doubt it’s all going to come out of a 529 so I don’t think there’s any reasong To exclude it

Hypothetically, if BBB was delayed and brought to the Senate floor next year (let's say February 2022) and passed, and the January 1st date for ending Roth conversions is left unchanged, what would happen to Americans who performed After-Tax 401k to Roth conversions in January? Would 401k custodians have to reverse the transactions and somehow factor in gains earned in users' Roth accounts since the conversion? Could there be penalties?

How did you get up the courage to invest? I max out the annual allowable contribution amount for my 401K, but otherwise I’ve got everything in savings. I have no debt, just a bunch of excess cash I’m too scared to do anything with. I know this is irrational - I’m above the FDIC-insured amount and I’m also losing value to inflation. I’d like to get to a position where I have maybe 14 months’ expenses in cash and the rest in investments (probably low-fee index funds).

Hi guys 👋🏻
This is regarding the interest amount of our EPF.

For you guys,is the interest details showing any amount in the EPFO member passbook? Or is it showing '0' like me(As seen in the photo below)?

Is the government yet to credit the interest amounts of our PF balances? Or is something wrong with my PF account only?

Any inputs will be really appreciated 🙂

I'm early in my career, managed to save $30K to invest, and want to get my hands dirty with a rental property without too much risk (e.g. no HML/flipping). It sounds like that's a tall order in the NY/CT area given the prices, not to mention whether I'd be able to get a mortgage on anything below $100K, but I figure I'll give it a shot anyway. Any advice on what you might do in my position? Am I being crazy with this idea?

Wanted to share some advice for anyone looking at track saws. I just bought the bare WEN 6.5” unit ($145.29) and paired it with the Powertec guide rail set ($119.89) and came away with a solid setup at a (comparatively) cheap price ($265).

I was considering the Makita ($585) or Dewalt ($790) setups since those are my normal go-to brands, but couldn’t stomach the cost.

Highly recommend it!

DM if you would like a referral to Deloitte Global Mobility tax group

A client developer group just told me they reached terms to “buy equity in a lease.” From what they’ve told me, if we were setting this up fresh, I’d do a new LLC and easily handle capital contributions, buy-sell, etc. in the new LLC agreement. However, here the partner had a long-term lease on the underlying RE that our group wants to develop as a concept. Lease assignment to new LLC is dicey, but I’m thinking maybe we set up a Mgmt services company to contract w/ the partner-tenant entity?

Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.
