Work from home caused weekend work to increase greatly in my experience. It makes it even more impossible to ever be “off” and leads to quicker burnout.
Yep.
This is only slightly responsive but I wish we could get some vacation credit for weekend work. If I work through weekends for months at a time, it feels so unfair to have to take PTO for a mental health day or long weekend when things slow down.
It’s probably firms with a significant CA that do that because in CA you can’t have use it or lose it. (I’m in the Northeast and have never worked for a company that pays out unused vacation.)
I def do not count sundays as weekdays, despite always working on them. To be clear, i am complaining (and clearly bitter about it) 😂
No. But my job does.
Heck no. Find your work - life balance. Firms that expect you to work Sundays (regularly) are taking advantage of you.
Btw, even from an economic perspective it’s not going to benefit you or the firm long-term. You won’t be as efficient and productive and you’ll burn out.
No, I try to avoid weekend work as much as I can. Which sometimes means late weeknights but it’s worth it.
My problem is more the opposite... I’ve been getting repeatedly slammed on Friday midday/afternoon. But I’d rather have it that way if it’s something I can still finish up before the end of the night.

Yes, I consider it a workday. It actually tends to be a more productive workday than work week workdays. Nobody else is emailing you, so you can take your time to focus on a project.
Though for my own sanity, I’ve gone back to considering Saturday a non-work day barring extreme crisis. It was getting too easy to extend my work time to 7-days per week. I need a day to clean, watch TV, and run errands.
I work most Sundays, but I do that because I take off early most Fridays and I see that as a good balance for me. Leave work by 2-3pm on Friday and do like 2-3 hours on Sunday before the games. This is, of course, when I’m not crazy busy.
Absolutely not a weekday!!! However, as soon as Sunday morning hits, I stress about all the work I have to complete during the week, and then I end up spending most of the day working.
