Do you guys create contact lists for new cases? It’s something my office has started doing when we receive a new case, along with a docket entry. My manager while great is very particular about how she wants the list setup & can be frustrating at times. She wants every single person involved in the case. That means every person cc’d on a email, mentioned in passing, or corresponded with. It seems unnecessary to me, but I’ve only been in the legal field for a little over a year. Is this common?

I have done this with every firm I've worked with. It takes time to maintain it, but you'd be surprised how often you need some of the information you thought was unnecessary at first.

This was common when I was at an ID firm years ago.

It’s common. This helps you and her keep track of who is involved and who needs to be included or excluded in emails and other correspondence. Especially as more cases come in, that may have the same OC or for coverage in case she or you go out on leave it is all in one place so there is no question or mistakes.

It’s probably a good to have this information all together although it can be a lot of maintenance. Lists are only useful when updated. My firm normally prepares these lists for trial.

like

it's more common than not. Working in the legal field you will develop a type A personality. If you already have that personality trait then the legal field will feel right at home.

like

Yes. Every person involved does need to be on the list. I use strikethrough to show who was, but is no longer, involved in the case. If your manager has a system, do it her way. She's already invented the wheel and probably learned the hard way what can go wrong. She may seem particular, but also may have a really good reason for wanting it that way. Sounds like you got lucky. This person can teach you a lot of valuable things.

I do it for my own sanity as well as for new associates or attorneys working on the file.

I have pretty bad anxiety to the point where it affects my job performance and will cause me to waste hours because I'm trying to cope with symptoms. I hate that xanax works so well and am terrified of getting addicted to it. Wasted 2 hours this morning panicking and thinking I was about to have a heart attack or something stupid, then I took a xanax and drank some tea and I'm super focused again and my productivity is way up. Anyone else take xanax? I usually only do like 2x a week.

30 m ny/nj. US citizen. Moved as a teenager. INTJ. Single since I figured I’m not fighting the biological clock and have all the time in the world to meet someone and get settled. Things changed after I watched Akshay’s mom (Indian Matchmaking) tell him even 25 is too late and not marrying somehow messes up lives of people around him. While the show was staged, there might be truth to the latter part.
Looking for F in ny/nj. Personality: NOT Aparna. NOT Nadia but def more Nadia than Aparna.🙏

Etiquette Question: firm is flying me out for 3 days for final interview/meet team/explore city. If offer is accepted, I must relocate to said city (which is fine). Tips for etiquette when being “flown out” by a firm? Itinerary includes tour of city and exploring local dining scene with associates, etc. Many thanks in advance!

Has anyone dealt with a lack of praise from attorneys? I'm not someone who needs to hear "good job" all the time, but we just got a huge deal closed that I worked really hard on and had a lot of overtime. And once it closed, the lead attorney praised the other attorneys, and said nothing about me or my work. I might just be overly sensitive, but it kind of stung. Thoughts?

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.
