Yes we have kids and being away would be a concern.
But my point is that I see people here saying that $2-3m is not enough to retire etc. It’s more than enough in a lot of places in the world. Why do we feel like getting stuck in the US and work until we are 65...
Not sure if you have kids but that may impact your plans. You may not want to be away from kids and grandkids for extended periods of time. Something to think about......
We can get healthcare coverage, good climate and access to lower living expenses when we retire. I am curious if there are others with similar conditions and if so, are they also thinking this can help them retire earlier than expected.
I’ll be able to get my EU citizenship in a few years. I’d plan on getting 2 residences and see what makes sense. One in the states and one out in France. Unsure of impact to retirement age though but I feel like I’d have more options down the road making a US consulting salary and being able to go between countries
Would like to hear more view points. Once you are an empty nest, you can always travel to your kids where ever they are in the world with the extra cushion you would have from living in a better/ low cost country.

Not retire but yeah I invest heavily in India. If I have to go back no qualms. That money has done really well.
In the very long run, I don’t want to live in the states.
We’re in the same situation and the idea of being away from our kids would deter me from moving

Better seems like a stretch but I'll give you cheaper, but I'm just a prideful American.

Does anybody know if Medicare covers your medical care in another country?
