Do you send a calendar invite to your team before going on vacation? Some of my coworkers do this and I find it redundant, since I’ll be able to see it from their status/calendar anyway.

I get that it helps with planning future meetings, but I got 8 calendar invites today about upcoming PTO and I’m thinking wtf, *DECLINE*. Just send a Slack message or something..😭

Yes! The trick is to remove the response option and to always have it show as free not busy on their calendars

Yes - always

As long as they mark the time as “free” so it doesn’t create a block on my calendar, I like it. Helpful.

I had a colleague who would also include their vacation destination in the Location field.

Ma'am, I don't care that you're spending a week in Tampa.

funny

Yes this is what you’re supposed to do

like

I had a peer who added a teams call to her invite

funny

Yes my team does. I only send my invite to those directly reporting to me, my manager, and occasionally others who I'm working closely with at the time.

In one of my old teams, we would let each other know by mentioning PTO in the status meeting or adding it to a shared team calendar but no one checked the calendar or remembered what was mentioned so often there'd be a "hey I'll be out that day" coming after a meeting gets scheduled

Actually, I suppose that assumes you are only committed to one client at a time which I now realize may not be the case

It’s just a friend reminder we are on vacation because the team is going to call and email us for time and expect us to work anyways.

Tell me if this is selfish or not. I adore my family, but since they're doing a very lowkey Christmas situation this year, I really would rather take a weeks vacation on my own. If you work at a small agency in NYC, could you tell me what your monthly health insurance premiums are for families? I'm at a small agency in NYC and the health benefits for a family are almost prohibitively expensive, ~1,500/mo with a high deductible. When submitting resignation do you pro rate the number of holiday days you would have accrued? I have leave booked around time of resignation (of which 5 days is PY roll over) so wondering if I can add an additional 2 days leave to the date from which I'm counting back 30 days from ie 20 days normal notice 5 days PTO (starts Thursday) puts me 27 days post submitting notice (wed). Could I add 27/365x 25 day holiday allowance = 2 extra days of leave I can add.

Curious what your title structure is for roles focused specifically on organic social media (or does it always require paid expertise?). I imagine Community Manager is appropriate for entry level but when you start to grow and the work becomes more than social moderation - responsible for the development of all organic content (and sometimes copywriting), high level reporting, etc. - not sure what's most reflective of the roles. Any insights and perspectives welcome :)
