Do you send a calendar invite to your team before going on vacation? Some of my coworkers do this and I find it redundant, since I’ll be able to see it from their status/calendar anyway.

I get that it helps with planning future meetings, but I got 8 calendar invites today about upcoming PTO and I’m thinking wtf, *DECLINE*. Just send a Slack message or something..😭

Yes! The trick is to remove the response option and to always have it show as free not busy on their calendars

Yes - always

As long as they mark the time as “free” so it doesn’t create a block on my calendar, I like it. Helpful.

I had a colleague who would also include their vacation destination in the Location field.

Ma'am, I don't care that you're spending a week in Tampa.

funny

Yes my team does. I only send my invite to those directly reporting to me, my manager, and occasionally others who I'm working closely with at the time.

In one of my old teams, we would let each other know by mentioning PTO in the status meeting or adding it to a shared team calendar but no one checked the calendar or remembered what was mentioned so often there'd be a "hey I'll be out that day" coming after a meeting gets scheduled

like

Actually, I suppose that assumes you are only committed to one client at a time which I now realize may not be the case

Yes this is what you’re supposed to do

like

I had a peer who added a teams call to her invite

It’s just a friend reminder we are on vacation because the team is going to call and email us for time and expect us to work anyways.

I just started a new job 2 months ago, benefits and PTO don’t start until 90 days in so I still have a month before I can take off any time, and today found out my company doesn’t offer paid maternity leave.
I’m really struggling handling the symptoms and maintaining my full time job. Thinking about looking for a part time job to have more time to myself through the pregnancy since I won’t be getting a paid leave anyways, but lost on where to start looking. Any recommendations?

Planning a trip to Rome and Naples with day trips to Tivoli and Pompeii. Is 1 week enough? I feel like reading through 3/4 day Rome and 2 day Naples itineraries, the trip seems rushed. I have unlimited PTO but my SO is limited in time (but luckily he can work extra hrs and then use less PTO). I would say max we could do is 1.5 weeks but adding on 3-5 more days seems almost too much? Thoughts? For reference, I did Venice-Florence-Rome in a week and it seemed okay but it also wasn’t as planned out

M/SM and above, why do you label a meeting as “touch point” or ask if you can have a “quick chat” when it’s something serious? Millennials like us always assume we’re about to get fired - I actually have been laid off in a meeting with that title. But at my new job, my boss asked for a “quick chat” to literally ask me to change the title of a meeting and then chat about christmas. Now that I’m in management, I want to understand it better.
