My boss asked me to take care of some of the details of a project for her—the stuff that isn't really my area of expertise. And now I feel like a shirker because I haven't been able to finish them yet.

Have a really good relationship with current company, but got an amazing offer and very likely gonna leave (signed the offer, waiting for all the background checks to come back). How do you tell your boss you are leaving the company (if boss is not a dick lol) and not ruin relationship?

I have a few interviews lined-up and wondering if it’s unprofessional to wear my nose ring on an interview? What are your thoughts?

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

How do you build rapport with your colleagues?

How long is it sustainable to talk to someone without meeting in person due to covid? I find myself getting bored because the meeting in person is what determines whether we actually vibe.

Is it okay to wear flats/mules to a job interview?

Any Hr people out there..my wife is going through a harassment case against her boss. He is retaliating against her and other staff. On going for years. Most recently she had to take a leave of absence. There is a formal investigation into him. What is the timeline this should take ? And should he be allowed to have 1on1 talks with other staff members?. He is in damage control now trying to buy everyone lunch and doing his own PR tour. Month into investig doesn't seem like much has happend yet.

How do you deal with a Midlevel who tells the partner you’ll cover for them, but gives you less than 24 hours notice they’ll be gone without asking if you can cover? I helped out back on July on a deal with they were on vacation, and now every vacation since they keep adding me back on without keeping me appraised of the deal in the interim

Any thoughts on how do we deal with an incompetent boss who you dont look up to and have no trust that you would ever get credit for the work you would do for him/her? Given that changing the boss is not an option.

I am seriously worried. I am doing my co-op and my supervisor is not giving me an easy time. I am trying to do my best even with very little direction and this supervisor constantly harassing my about things like her not being able to use google meet or to remember passwords. I feel bullied and very anxious. I am afraid she can jeopardize my visa with a bad evaluation. I have been working at midnight, on Sunday mornings but I am human, I make mistakes, she just blames me instead of teaching.

I was called into HR because a coworker overheard a conversation between me and another colleague taking about cable/streaming shows that we watched or recorded. I mentioned that I recorded a few true-crime shows. My colleague jokingly said, "I hope I'm not on your hit-list!". I replied, "Not anymore." HR pulled me in to say a coworker complained about me talking about hit-lists, and they were now scared. HR wouldn't say who complained, so do I have a right to ask about the resolution to this?

Need advice. Interviewing for an internal role to lead a team adjacent to my current team. I’m trying to prepare for the interview, during which I’ll be asked to share my plan for the team. I’ve worked with two of the people on the team who will report to whomever gets this job. I am a mid level and have received an offer from a regional big law firm in a non-market paying location. I believe the firm would be a great fit and the location is where I want to be. The biggest issue is money. I’d be lateraling from full cravath in a major market and the initial offer I received is a bit off that (read: 50% salary reduction). While the market is cheaper in some respects, housing is not. How far can I expect this firm to go to in terms of compensation? Any negotiation tips?

I, a childless woman who does not plan to have kids, am jealous of the parental leave parents get to take from work from choosing to have a child (a big life event). I 100% understand that they are working in a different way by taking care of the baby and being deliriously worn out in the process, but it makes me sort of jealous that unless I have a kid there is no life event that I can take ~3 months away from work to focus on and enjoy, plus have my hours prorated and a job to come back to.

Do partners sometimes say nice things about your work just to encourage you and less so because the work merits the compliment? Or is my impostor syndrome really messing with my head?

A friend was told their firm will cut ties EOY if certain things don’t improve. Friend had planned to quit in the next year anyway (to start their own business), so there is no real incentive to bend over backwards. Friend’s goal is to keep the income for a little longer, but to minimize conflict / headaches. What’s the best move here? Wait until EOY and take the severance? Give 6 / 9 / 12 months’ notice now? Is there such a thing as too much notice? Could too much notice backfire?
