Do your leaders ever ask you for feedback on how they are doing? Not just the general survey that everyone takes, but individual feedback. Mine never do. The feedback only goes one way and it chaps me.

Our company initiated 'Keep, Stop Starts'. This is where my manager's superior would initiate a meeting with our team to answer the following questions:

1) What would you like your manager to keep doing?
2) What would you like your manager to stop doing?
3) What would you like your manager to start doing?

The facilitating superior would then compile the feedback and meet with the team leader to share and discuss all feedback anonymously. It actually generated some great ideas and helped positively reinforce the the good things that were happening.

I love this idea!

Yes

It was done as a team meeting with all individuals reporting to said Team Leader. This also included support staff directly reporting. Any remote workers attended via zoom to a conference call held in a private meeting with onsite staff. Or all attendees jumped on a zoom call to help avoid telecommuters from getting talked over or ignored.

The facilitator would track the feedback on a large whiteboard or large flip sheets on a stand to help give visibility. I believe zoom also offers a whiteboard capability.

Please understand that all parties must be fully educated and understand that the intent behind the exercise is not disciplinary. The team leader should not be present nor should they ever confront anyone on their team individually regarding the feedback. Team leaders may encourage additional discussion as a team within their team meetings to either gain extra clarity or let the the team know how much they appreciated the honest feedback given and discuss any procedural changes that may happen as a result of their feedback. As a team leader, I found it another great way to keep a pulse on my team and I had a manager that never made it feel like a punitive exercise.

As a footnote, as a team leader, I always kicked off meeting myself asking everyone to be candid and honest. It was also a way to let them all know that I was on board with the exercise and the feedback they gave was encouraged and would not be viewed as disloyal or 'ratting me out'. 😉

If they did, do you think they’d want an honest answer or try to change?

I went through the hiring process with this company and finally got an offer. They offered 88k/year and I responded opening a negotiation. They emailed me back saying that I am no longer in this process anymore with no further explanation and in Thanksgiving day. Is that normal?that email really got me very upset

I’ve been working for a company for 25yrs, looking for advancement. I’m considered an SME, managing people, Vendors and working on large system conversions. Have provided long term goals. When requesting feedback I’m told I’m on the right path, no suggestions on what to improve. I asked about timelines for advancement and not being given anything concrete. Recently interviewed with another company as a Vendor Mgmt partner. Individual contributor, high visible position with potential. Thoughts?
