No I’ve wanted to be a Consultant since I was 5 years old

Just the money for me 🤷🏻♂️

I got into consulting for the money, and that is certainly a major factor that's kept me in it decades later.
That said, 90%+ of the time, I do indeed enjoy my job. I'm good at it, I've gotten to work with and lead good teams, I've done cool stuff, I've had pretty darn good WLB over the years, and the mission of fed consulting is a key contributing factor.
It’s my goals to be like you haha

To add to KPMG1 Money can buy goods , services and HAPPINESS 💪

Consulting isn’t for everyone. I knew some people that were truly passionate about the work and loved their job. I tried to force myself to be like them because it felt like the only path to success. Then I left consulting and started a new career in an industry that truly gets me excited every single day. Now I look back thinking Wtf, why did I try to force myself to enjoy consulting 😂 Life is too short.
Money can be used to purchase goods or services 🫡
Woohoo!
I love what I do… but I also care about being compensated fairly 🤪
I like the work, usually like my clients, and really dislike my leadership. Paid fairly imo.
Yes it’s crazy. I really love learning about the great financial crisis. I could never comprehend how [smart, “well to do”] people could be so detached from morality yet be successful by traditional measures. Now I get it.
As you get closer to people, they may share their real thoughts. There’s no reason to be open about disliking your job.

Bless your heart 🙄
To be honest love consulting - love the type A personalities for the most part and the banter that comes along with most of my engagement teams.

I enjoy the finer things so, like others here, money was the attraction. I am on the IT side - so my other attraction was that I did not want to be in a corporate role and considered support/costs center. Consulting put me in a different group as a revenue generator (I was not a product engineer). A lot of different types of consulting - I did big global ERP implementations, but dabbled in IT strategy and M&A work. I enjoyed the team work and seeing a visible impact of the work - actually solving problems for people. The strategy stuff I could not find joy in - felt like a powerpoint jockey. Did a stint at Slalom, one of their core values is Love of Work. Grinding out a pay check is a lousy way to go through the week - do something where you can find some joy - life is too short.
Money and being able to primarily work from home. Beyond that I feel like a glorified PPT maker rotting away
Definitely money. Though, to be fair, that’s most jobs.
I love the pay. But also, if you make good connections and establish yourself, you will get to do some really cool projects. Also working with smart people is super fulfilling, you learn a lot.
Smart people?
I worked 6 years at EY and it boils down to the boss and your relationship with him or her. My first 2 years at EY were excellent as we had a partner who cared about his people. After he left the next few partners destroyed the positive culture that he had created. Yes, the money was good at EY but I left for job enjoyment. Just before I resigned from EY, a colleague told me "I woke up this morning and jumped out of bed excited - then I realised it was Friday and not Saturday and I wanted to vomit!"
If the answer is anything besides money then you are being lied to.
