Does anyone deduct home office expense from taxes? Square footage times industry standard of $5. I work out of the home about 2 to 3 times a week. Is this allowable? TY

I think you can only deduct it if it’s exclusively used for work. Like if you WFH and use your living room, but also use it for leisure, it doesn’t count. Don’t quote me on this bc I didn’t even look it up!

like

Under new rules, it’s only allowable for contractors.

like

If you have a way to turn back time to 2017, you can deduct.

My house is 4,000 sq ft. You're saying I can deduct $20,000?

like

It’s literally the office or immediate area your laptop sits.

like

IRS already has boxed you in, super defined criteria for what qualifies. With the doubling of the standard deduction, most of these types of deductions aren’t worthwhile if you’re an employee

like

Yeah you can’t anymore

like

There’s also a maximum sq footage. But no I don’t think you can deduce unless you have another business to deduct from

I have $200K in betterment for automated investing (eg 90% stock 10% bond) and use Personal Capital to track all my accounts. Recently personal capital approached me to use their advisory service to manage the investment - the fee is 0.89% vs. 0.25% at betterment. They don’t seem to have a better strategy except “we have a live person managing your investment”. Anyone have experience? Shall I consider it? (I don’t have time /energy to manage it)

I’m interviewing at Google’s Treasury team. The role would be as a rates analyst managing their portfolio - primarily cash and short duration fixed income products (100bn aum). TC: ~150k, not sure of breakdown.

I currently work as a quant/middle office at a very well reputed mutual fund, but this is not a market facing role. TC: 125k, but they have a very generous profit sharing plan that contributes 25% of my pay to retirement accts if I stay for 6 years, so ~160k?

Any thoughts?

But at my new job, my boss asked for a “quick chat” to literally ask me to change the title of a meeting and then chat about christmas. Now that I’m in management, I want to understand it better.
