Planning Directors: market and salary?
For those that work at Protiviti, could you tell me a little bit about what your solution division and what you do? I’m an incoming risk and compliance intern, but I’m afraid the work is boring and repetitive. I’m thinking about communicating with HR to transition to Business Improvement consulting or tech consulting. What are your thoughts?Protiviti

Not sure about Florida, but the Wilson Elser office in White Plains, New York has the exact same reputation - a mill, with huge turnover. If you don’t hate your current firm, consider asking them to match the offer and stay.
If current firm is CSK, then Wilson Elser is probably an improvement in name at least (and hopefully a slight improvement in lifestyle). Surprised the offer is only “slightly” higher, though I wouldn’t expect too much more. WE is a big shop but they do high volume, low margin work. So it’s basically the same model as your current firm, just with a broader geographic footprint. There’s only so much money to go around in ID.
A mill
Really depends on your office/practice team. I’ve been there 2 years and love it. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of work and I do feel underpaid but I work for great partners and have received wonderful mentorship. There I no way I would have stayed as long as I have if it weren’t for the mentoring I am getting. I’ve heard from associates in other practice groups in our office that they don’t get the same opportunities and are more of a mill.
One thing I do appreciate is that they do monthly hours bonuses. If you bill at least 175 hours in a month then you get $250 for the next month, 185 hours is $350, 200 hours is $600, 215 hours is $800. It’s nice if I have a depo heavy month or a trial coming up that I know I’ll have a little bit extra afterwards to treat myself. That doesn’t make up for the fact that the salary is very low for a 2,000 minimum but I do wish more firms rewarded people that had crazy months.
seconding this! i’ve been there a year and a half. it’s a lot but that translates to good billables. the trick is aligning with the right mentors; i love my mentor and am learning a lot.
OP where are you working in Florida? I am at a mill and hoping to jump but not wanting to jump to another mill.
