Any remote openings for Data Science domain?
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Hiring freezes are always just a suggestion. For a critical role that's already funded and won't hit margins (or which is deemed to be of similar importance to the organization) exceptions can be made.
Companies have been in a "hiring freeze" since 2008. It's just a tactic to get people off their backs about being understaffed. If the company needs to hire someone for something... they will.
Grey is in a super hiring freeze as we continue to decline. They can’t even pay people they promoted before the freeze
Hiring freeze? Haven’t heard of it.
Pretty typical end of year move as budgets are reconciled.
And it’s the end of the year which means publicly held companies need to make their numbers so if the position is on hold it will likely open up in q1
@Grey 1 Grey just hired 3 ECDs........
The hiring freeze means each company has to get any needed hires approved by WPP as an exception, but hiring is still possible based on specific need.
Hiring Freezes, consolidation, activation, layoffs, mergers...WPP so hot right now.

Ask them directly before going forward. It’s a legitimate question
I believe Edelman and Essence are two agencies with exceptions to the freeze on top of critical roles.
Get out now!
There is no freeze at GrouoM companies.
There is a freeze at GroupM, but for new hires. Replacement hires are not frozen. The way the agencies get past this is to fire someone, give the role a new title and bring in a new person as a replacement. It sounds like a joke - but this is how they operate.
It’s reassurance for shareholders more than active policy
But have they mentioned that they ARE hiring you?
Depends on which WPP agency you’re talking to
Working at a WPP agency right now. Asked hiring manager and ECD point blank. No freeze where I am. Plus we’ve hired 4 people since the rumor broke and are interviewing more all the time
Not sure about WPP right now (haven't been with any of their shops for a good few years), but we have a freeze at some point most years and AD1 is absolutely right - pre-funded or critical roles will always have exceptions made. Ask them about it point blank, but you should be fine.
