Recently was interviewed for a Sr. role in Booking but unfortunately the team finds me better suited as a core individual contributor.

Need advice & perspectives: I got a verbal review from my manager saying he couldn’t see me as senior cuz I didn’t follow the design doc format he mandates from all designers. My current title is the latter and I’m interviewing for a Principal role. The title suggests it’s more senior and would appear to be a promotion on my resume but the jd sounds similar to what I’m already doing. I’m currently and IC, Principal is also IC. The only nuance I got from the recruiter is that there is no actual designing in this role.

Is this a case of title inflation?
