As someone who has both, a mortgage is so much better. I feel like student loans is just throwing money away. Education should be free.
Yeah good point. I feel that way now, like all I have is a stupid piece of paper haha
I would say paying them feels about the same lol, but at least with a mortgage I feel like I'm getting something out of it by having a nice home. With student loans, I'm paying for a degree I don't even use.
There is nothing more daunting than paying student loan debt... especially after you were promised that they would be forgiven. That is the worst fallen through promise anyone could have done to me.
It feels different, not sure it feels any less daunting though. Knowing that that payment is going to be coming out on the 1st of each month definitely adds pressure. It's been worth it though, I'm happy to no longer be flushing money down the toilet each month paying rent.
💯. With a mortgage, at the end of the day you own something worth value. With a degree, you still have to prove your value no matter what. Go to a school where you don't have to go into debt. You'll still get a great job if you work hard.
Sadly I couldn't have done this anywhere in Canada but I somewhat agree with this in the US where there's plenty of options for school!
If you don’t have a mortgage, then you’re likely paying rent, so on that basis a mortgage feels different to me compared to student loans.
That's true.
Honestly yes and I can't explain how but it really did feel much less daunting than the amount of student loan debt that I have.
