Does your firm have half days before a holiday? BDO does 3pm close (instead of 5:30pm) which essentially gives us 2.5 hours, but I’m wondering if any firms have half days or other more flexible options

Kpmg does 2hrs of “jump start” (ie leave early) every Friday during the summer. Doesn’t really matter though, if utilization is all that matters. Gotta work extra during the week to make it up anyways, and if you’ve already done 40 during a week, no need to work 9-5 on Friday in the first place.

like

Yeah jumpstart goes out the window if your engagement says they need you to work those hours

Baker Tilly has disconnect days once a month that are treated like a holiday. They are meant to make sure we have a 3 day weekend each month. But in months with other holidays, it usually falls in line to get us a longer holiday.

like

RSM does

I’ve had to work every day including Labor Day the last 3 years

RSM closes 2 hrs early before many holiday weekends.

like

Yes, EY closes 1 day early

Your firms have close times??

like

We do as well. For the admin and other non client service personnel. Get back to work!

Smaller firms need those incentives to compete against the big boys since comp can't be matched, from what I see.

helpful

Wait what? But the "big boys" like EY had it completely off, which is clearly better than getting off 2 hours early, so if anything the big boys have another leg up in addition to comp...

like

We have off tomorrow

Yep, we are off at 12pm local. Same with all other long weekends.

Crowe is off tomorrow officially but most tax folks are working

If I recall correctly, EisnerAmper typically gives an entire day before a holiday or long weekend for most holidays (i.e. Friday before Memorial Day, Wednesday before Thanksgiving, extra day for 4th of July, December 23), with the exception of Labor Day due to busy season, and I believe New Year's eve is also not included. May not be permanent, but has been the case the past few years.

Does anyone have a similar experience? I interviewed with recruiters from two of "Big 4". Both interviews went well, and I was told the recruiters will submit my resume to the partners and senior managers for the next interviews. 3 weeks later, I received the rejection letters without the next interview. I wonder why the partners even not bothered to interview me. If it matters, I am a CPA with 3 years non-PA experience and applied for experienced associate positions. I appreciate any insights.
