They don't, but they do lean to their most trusted side of associates when necessary. If things are going awry, they'll consult with the people they trust most and proceed after that. It's not really favoritism but it's definitely a closer relationship they have with a certain few.

The manager does not "play favorites" such as letting an employee get away with something that others can't -- like leaving 30 minutes early or taking a 90-minute lunch break. Neither does she sit for 30 minutes chatting with one while the other staffers are busy at work. I think there are some staff members that she likes better than others, but that's due to more personable personalities and a reputation for consistency and quality in their work. Face it, nobody likes a sour puss or a slacker. However, a good manager knows that all employees must be treated equally even if all employees aren't really equals.

Yeah makes sense !
I usually start by saying "I do not drive a train." Then I tell them that I decide what needs to be done, design a way to get that done, and then turn it over to the "hands-on" team who makes sure it gets the job done.
