What will the project dynamics be on a project staffed with 3mdps, a PL, and myself, a summer UG intern? Just got staffed and will be hearing more on Monday from the team, but it came across as an interesting staffing composition.
Have the feeling I'll be making quite a few slides as the only junior. Anyone staffed on a similar case composition?

I don't know but "google is free" has me dead. Just say that, it'll be worth it to see their faces.
The problem starts and ends with this person being the only black creative on the team. It’s a hiring issue within the company.
Its nuanced. By them asking you, they trust you and want to get it right. So if you look at it through that lens, it shifts. If they didn’t ask you and missed the mark, then it would be the same “were there no Black ppl in the room?” refrain.
You’re going to have to accept that you ARE the Black person in the room. But make it known you don’t want to be the only one. That we are not a monolith. And you are not a token, don’t accept that role…you are the beginning. Good luck!
Yeah I think it's the monolith thing that's been bothering me. I'm glad they trust me, but it's hard not to feel like a token in an all-white room and they all act like your words and opinions are that of all Black people. However, I will still give my best effort, and I do appreciate that they're at least asking and not making assumptions of stereotypes, I guess even that shows progress.
I personally wouldn’t think anything is wrong with this. They feel you are the one on the team who could possibly relate to the project. I personally would take it as an opportunity to put them on game and take the credit. In my experience, If there was only one spanish speaking teammate, I would ask her to translate. Isn’t that the point of having a diversified team? Idk
Right! But I don’t think she should say no, I think this is an opportunity for you to change the perspective on the added value you bring to your team. I DO think how you feel reflects more on the relationship you have with your colleagues or the culture of your organization (and not necessarily the project), I believe if you had a better bond with them you wouldn’t feel “out of place” when they come to you for suggestions. I had a great relationship with my team and we were of different races and I loved that they took my perspective into consideration, you represent your race in that group and in the creative aspects of the project (that may feel like a lot) but own it!
Been here when I was a younger copywriter. People really don't realize stuff like that is at the very least a microaggression. They also often act like you should be grateful they want to talk to you about it/quiz you which can be really patronizing and off putting. They make you feel like the bad guy for setting a boundary.
Ah the token black creative. You are the Sammy Davis of the Rat Pack. Only way to handle this is tell them to hire a another black creative or quit and work at another agency that only has one black creative so it can be two of you.
