During a phone call with a recruiter I was asked my salary expectations. I said $85k-$90k which is within the posted range of $66k-$106k. When I said the amount there seemed to be a long pause by the recruiter and then she hesitantly responded that the role would likely land closer to 85k “due to budget”. It makes me wonder if they would comeback with an even lower offer than the $85? What has been your experience with salary ranges and offers lately?

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?
