Depends how far you want to go with it. Amex will handle charges side but if you file a police report you can maybe help the prosecution. If they called your cell they can track call and go from there. and if it was in the hotel phone system, well... easier. id also report to hotel because either somone is watching your amex or it was at least part inside job.
How has no one asked what they spent 2500 at LOWES for. Is this a contractor needing supplies? A housewife forcing her pool buy to buy a new hot tub. Kids need a new tree house. How do you spend that much that fast... at Lowe's.
So wait until the transaction posts and file a fraud claim
You in cyber security by any chance?
Whatever EY1 said. Then post the new card information here for incidentals.
That's creative AF I might give it a shot
Very smart fraud call though.....
OP: go to bed. You are 100% covered. I promise you, of all the shit to worry about in our lives, someone phishing you from a hotel on your corp Amex isn't anything to lose a minute of sleep over.
'Hi, sorry to disturb you. My name is Jeff I'm the Assistant Manager downstairs. We're actually experiencing some technical issues and we lost about 25% of the information on our guests. Due to legal/policy issues and for your safety, we need to update our information so we know which guests are staying with us. Can you please confirm your name, address, and email. Thank you. Also do you remember which card you used for the reservation? Can I please get the card number?'.....one hour later I'm strolling downstairs and wave at the front desk guy and say are we all squared away? And he realized what happened immediately
PwC1, they called directly to the hotel phone. Which is why I fell for it. No one has ever called me on my hotel phone before ever
Amex will handle it . They will not ask for any extra proof. Happened to me once
EY1, what if they don't take the claim? The only evidence I have is the hotel actually did just send out a memo notice to every guest saying someone has been calling guests. Never filed a claim before
You're fine, especially with the hotel memo
This is so embarrassing M2, I've even read a book on social engineering 😪😪😪😪
No, legally credit card companies are responsible for fraud like this. If the fraudulent charges haven't cleared or posted to your account, then AMEX isn't going to give the final approval to release the funds anyway, so even AMEX isn't out any cash.
You reported it quickly, so you're 100% covered on any fraud charges. You will not be responsible and neither will Deloitte, so you won't get in trouble there either.
@D4 you can spend 2500$ at Lowes in literally 10 minutes
Fishbowl says your card didn't go through here. Can you please post with expiration date and security code
GUYSSSSS UPDATE!!!!!!! AMEX said they'll take care of the charge 🙌🏽😀
It is still a fraudulent charge, so you can still dispute it. You did not consent to the charge
For sure i would get hotel GM involved, and corporate too. Police, up to you bc thats a hassle on your side, but someone could/should go to jail for fraud related crimes.
Amex will handle it. Had several fraud charges in my life. Fill out Piece of paper they mail and send back. Everything disappears. If they really want to they will investigate it. This is normal write off for them.
