Hello Guys,
I joined Cognizant recently, the project interview calls which I am getting is not from my base location.
I have the location constraint, should I wait for the right opportunity or raise this concern to ADP team so they can look in to it?
As per ADP policy, one should not have any constraints and take the project as FCFS basis.

Popping in to thank you for doing this, Muqtadar!! So happy to have you. Can we have you be the official Partner 1 of this bowl? And toughest question of all - chai or coffee?
It is amazing that we have no connections in common then. Lol.
Aight all - iA that's a wrap! Thank you to everyone that asked questions and engaged. It was a lot of fun!
I do have to give a shout-out to the full eymc leadership team and volunteers - too many to name here but we won't have EYMC without you. Your work late at night is what makes this community happen. May Allah give you immense ajar.

Salam! For some of us with imposter syndrome, does it ever go away? When did you finally realize you’ve arrived, ‘made it’, belong in your position? It’s very encouraging seeing people like you in positions of power! Thanks for doing this!

JAK! This certainly helps! I can take solace in the fact that you can learn to overcome your insecurities over time!
Are you finding our work experiences differ between what Muslim men experience and what Muslim women experience? Has that changed the way your are building your community?
Thank you so much!
When you say build the community, what actions did you take? I see the newsletter a lot but what else did you find that was successful for the muslims in your company as well as drawing non muslims to come to the events as a sort of dawah
Great idea! We are doing iftar in different regions. Our goal is to strengthen the bonds - and for that we need people to connect with each other. Local get together (or iftar in Ramadan if people are open to it) is perfect. We also are doing an Eid gift exchange to get our members to connect with each other!
Thank you for the thoughtful question!

I'm new at my company, what type of senior support should I get to start community at my workplace?
Love this question!
At a new company, you have a perfect reason to talk to a lot of people to introduce yourself. You can use these introductory conversations to connect with others, especially people that may be Muslim, and explore their interests in building a community. You don’t need a lot of people, but just 2 - 3 committed people. Finally, find the most senior person you can that is willing to be a sponsor for the effort.
Once you’ve a leader and a small team, focus on doing one thing and doing it really well. For e.g., at EY we focused on doing a newsletter and doing it well, and doing it consistently. Inshallah this will start getting the word of mouth out.
The additional thing to consider is that most other peers are thinking about this same journey - other Big4, Slalom, etc. So, connect with people who might be slightly ahead of you and learn from what may have worked for them.
In our case, we benefited tremendously by having EY-UK and Accenture’s guidance Alhamdulillah.
Also, feel free to dm if you want to chat more.
Thank you for sharing! Are contractors allowed to join similar communities, or is it only available to Full time employees?
At EY, the email addresses generally are not distinguished between contractors and the rest. So, we didn’t seek out the distinction.
This community is essentially just a shared interest community that’s informal. So if the contractors can join other shared interest communities, I don’t see a reason they can’t join a community like this.
There's a large Muslim community at my firm, should I reach out to HR or the DEI team when starting an official group?
It is easier to convince them if you can show momentum. Get a small number of people that are committed together, and start doing something to build the community. We did a newsletter at EY.
Once you have a 100 or so people, get the most senior people in the community to reach out and talk to your firm leadership, including the DEI teams.
We are happy to talk more on how we structured these conversations iA. Just DM me
How did you navigate being Muslim in an industry with heavy drinking culture? Did you ever feel like that impacted your ability to connect with your teams?
This is a question I get often. Unfortunately the drinking culture was much more common than it is nowadays.
I hung out with others that didn’t drink. Mormon’s can be fun to hang out with. 😁 And most people were respectful when I said I don’t drink.
Did I miss out the post-drinking bonding? Yeah sure, but there are other ways to connect with others. I would try to help organize other events to connect with the team besides just a happy hour. And people were happy to let me take that on.
Nowadays though, it is a lot more common for people to not drink. And there is a focus from a DEI perspective to be thoughtful about not doing events where it’s always about alcohol.
hope this help. iA the key takeaway is to find ways to connect with others that are acceptable to you.
Keep them questions coming iA!
Also, tell me what’s on your mind? What do you want the leadership to understand that we just don’t understand?
Thank you so much!!!
How do you get out of happy hours or client meetings that involve drinking alcohol or sitting at bar without being the odd one out or missing out on opportunities to build relationships with your clients or other leadership teams? How do you convey that message and get around the awkwardness feeling?
That's fair. It will always be there. You just need to make sure an equally compelling alternative is always there as well. IA

Thank you so much for doing this! I have a few questions.
1) I find networking to be quite difficult partly because I seem to not have common shared interests like golf or beer to start quick conversations with. How you recommend going about networking?
2) It has been difficult to get staffed as an Associate on projects and while I have been told that this is a firm wide challenge, what can I do to increase my chances of getting staffed sooner.
3) When you have extra time during a project or while on the bench, what do you recommend doing/learning that will help you advance your career?
4) How do you go about finding a mentor at work?
Of course! This has been fun!
1) don't worry about those topics. Talk about a topic that you really are passionate about - it shows, and people want to learn. Focus on developing your story telling skills. That's how you captivate an audience. Shared interests are good, but when people want to hang out with you for your insights and unique stories, that's even more compelling
2) we are sold out pretty much everywhere / so not sure why this is the case. Dm me and we can discuss what may be the challenge iA
3) first learn to do your job well. So focus on the technical stuff. Once you're good at it, focus on relationship, different ways of thinking and storytelling. Ey has amazing courses our there with our partners like skillshare, Udemy and coursa. We also have access to some of the best data sources - go explore things you're passionate about
4) talk to a lot of people. Once you find a person you can trust your career with, you can have a conversation with them about having an ongoing mentorship touchpoint. I suggest having 3 - 5 mentors that provide some diversity of thought
Thank you for the really relevant questions!
Happy you are here! THank you for all you add :)
I love this, Was it difficult getting funding from your HR/DEI team to support your community?
The issue is that if you wait for funding to start, it may never happen.
At EY, about 12 partners just agreed to fund all costs until we are officially recognized. This made our decisions so much earlier and helped share the cost burden.
IA the firm will formalize the funding etc., but my advice is to not wait for it to get started. You don’t need a lot of money to establish the community.
