Probably being a subject matter expert where you’re brought the business and sales due to your expertise vs generating sales overall as a generalist. Just a guess
We have a technical track in Technology Consulting, basically deep technical specialists. They don’t have sales goals.
Okay that makes sense. Looks like the SM in question is to lead are large client engagement(s) so essentially a SME for the client(s) and performance management of staff. This is similar to ACN roles I worked on in a previous life.
Im not aware of any EY SM roles in consulting that are explicitly devoid of sales goals. SM5 in tech consulting here and have seen plenty of colleagues who are both domain experts and generalists and yet have responsibilities of execution + sales. Go hand in hand in many ways.
