Fairly certain I’m getting laid off in an hour. Been through it once before. Any tips?

Laid off. Coming back to freelance. No worries.

Deal. I’m at the Library if you’re in NYC. I’m the guy without a shirt.

Send any files, work and emails you need to your personal email. You don’t want to be in a spot in your interviews where you’re not able to speak to the work you’ve done.

I’ll be good. Besides, it’s Pride this week. Guess who won’t have to go into work hungover?

I’ve been laid off twice in my 17 year career. Now I own my own shop. For me, and for just about anyone I know, getting fired has been an ass kicking step that clears out the old and makes way for the new. Good luck!

Get all your files on drop box and google drive immediately. Start now and take everything. Ask a producer for an portable hard drives and just copy and paste your entire HD onto it. Export all address books from outlook. Erase as much as you can from the computer. Just relax and get it done

@copywriter 1 See you at the bar.

delete your personal files, close up your computer and go to your favorite bar, get a burger and a stiff drink and go see a movie.

I just got laid off an hour ago. *cheers

Don’t sign anything and ask for more.

Remember that if they're letting you go, you owe them nothing. Don't sign anything if you don't want to. Don't answer their questions. Don't have a post-mortem. Just say "Okay" and be gone. Not sure if that's the best or most emotionally intelligent advice for all. But it has worked for me in these highly-charged moments. Walk out the door and move on with your life. You're fucking worth it.

@ECD1 they’re looking at cutting costs across the board. I’ve been proper fired from one spot and that sucked. But it was a TOXIC environment and I was relieved. This place I actually like. But I wouldn’t take it personal. In this instance, it’s just business.

like

@copywriter 1 Not in NYC. Other coast. I’ll be there in spirit, though.

Your post was giving me anxiety. Thanks for the real time updates. Hope you’re feeling okay, everything’s gonna work out!

I’m rooting for you. Try not to cry. I got laid off and cried and I regret it every day of my life.

@Project Manager 1 Two steps ahead on that one.

like

@CWOP I’d check your labor laws. In some states it’s illegal to fire someone then hire them back as a temporary employee.

They keep pushing the meeting back. A little annoying. Oh well. Keeping cool.

I got some good work out of this place in the 9 months I was here. But it’s been sloooooow. I make to much to be sitting around with nothing to work on (even after asking).

Quick vent: fiancé and I were going to put an offer in on an apartment we loved before all of this Covid stuff happened but changed that plan to rent to buy starting Aug to be safer. The sellers just told us they accepted someone else’s offer to buy. We, especially me, were in love with the apartment but we were too risk adverse to buy now bc if Covid and fiancé working at a startup that had layoffs in the beginning. Just sad bc we’ve been looking for two years and this was the perfect place.
