Feeling cash strapped - Just bought a home and feeling cash strapped. Thinking about stopping 401k contributions for a year or so to get more cash. My firm matches 25% up to 6% of my contribution, so I will also lose this. Thoughts???

I am doing a back door Roth IRA through Vanguard and while everything makes sense to me, I am unsure if an additional $6000 be invested for a non working spouse. We satisfy the criteria but two questions - 1) Is this still valid I.e., $12k can be invested for 2021? And 2) Any insight into how this is done - Vanguard doesn’t let me add more than $6k as it’s above the individual limit. I tried searching the bowl for specific answers but wasn’t successful. Inputs appreciated.
