Feeling frustrated because i cashed a lot out of markets late may to pay my downpayment and now the stock market is unstoppable.

But now in one of those towns that has incredible appreciation (27% last yoy) and bidding wars and we somehow managed to get a house under list price and negotiate a bunch of seller and lender credits in the process (the title folks were amazed).

Someone please knock sense into me and tell me I’m dumb to be frustrated by the dow and nasdaq.

Sounds like you did what you had to do. Money is meant to be spent on what you need. And you have a good HHI so you’ll be fine…

It was a long search (we have a 9 month old so have been quickly running out of space in our apt) and i think we ultimately landed on the right price for us - $850k in a town with an average home price of $1.2M, and most auto appraisal sites like Zestimate guess our house is worth around $950k.

We make around $375k combined so we won’t exactly be flush in cash with mortgage taxes daycare and car thrown in there but it’s a lot better than previous pricing we were looking at.

Why were the title folks amazing?

Amazed because they hadn’t seen that many credits especially from a seller in a long time

If the market crashed in a few months you’ll be happy you sold your investments.

You got $100k in equity and missed out on what? 10% of gains in the market?

Dude take the win and be happy. Assuming you put 20% down on an 850k home, you missed out on what? $20k? That thing can go down any week

I'm a Canadian on the TN visa working in the US and planning on maxing my Roth IRA (6k) and will have enough left to max my 401k this year, but am not sure if I should just use a taxable account over 401k due to tax considerations when I move back to Canada (likely 1-2 years from now). Any thoughts here? I don't think I'll have enough RRSP room to move 401k>IRA>RRSP and I would prefer to not have to file US taxes every year in retirement for withdrawls if I left the 401k in the US.

Just joined industry. I love the company, so I'm thrilled to be here. ESPP was incredible at a company like Accenture, but with the stock price of my current company, I'm just wondering if I should take advantage. The dividend is nice. Based on the Gross salary offered I have calculated the in hand salary per month would be around 152000 considering 150000 in 80C, 50000 in NPS and 200000 deductions due to home loan interest. Closing on my first home. Advice for anyone with student loans in administrative forbearance per the Cares act: once your offer is accepted have you student loan servicer put your account back in repayment status.

Accounts in forbearance, even administrative forbearance, are calculated at a higher monthly payment by the underwriter.

In process of buying a house, both my surveyor and specialist damp contractor found damp under kitchen tiles (In the grout) & in skirting boards and up one wall. Just bought a new primary residence that needs work. Current home has ~$100k equity after buying in 2019 with <$20k down (appreciated around 20% in the last 3 years, in a major metro area). Would you:

I went under contract last fall for a new build that will be done later this year. In the contract the seller/builder included a clause that gave them the ability to change the price without cause anytime before the house is complete. This past week they invoked that clause to increase the price by like 7%, supposedly due to material costs. I can either agree to the increase or they return my deposit. Hey everyone, curious about pros/cons and profitability of renting out a unit long term vs AirBnB. Let’s say it’s a condo downtown in a big city, how do you figure out what’s the better option?

We are renovating a condo and the previous owner had two Crane toilets (not sure how old, but functioning although seals are old according to our contractor). Back outlet flour mount ones are the only options for the building, and one toilet can cost $300-$500.

We are redoing all the bathroom tiles and walls and debating what we should do with the two toilets. Would resealing the toilets extend the use life? Or should we just replace the toilets? Any other recommendations? TIA!!

Who is still in denial about a housing correction? The Fed just made another .75% increase. Powell said they won’t stop until inflation is 2%. He also said a recession would be better than the consequences of unchecked inflation. He announced he will bring rates to a “restrictive level” until “the job is done”. He said that labor demand needs to soften (ie: layoffs). He very explicitly said he wants to slash demand and that housing needs a “correction”.
