Not the answer you want to hear, but I knew the hiring manager and did quality work for them in the past . Connections really help
I did not get a remote job but only got a job after following up with the hiring company. The hiring person had not even seen my resume which was sent thru another online job app
I started my job just before the pandemic. We went remote, I moved, and I'm one of the lucky few that has been able to keep remote status.
Lucky I have always worked on-site, and I am eagerly trying to find a permanent remote position consisting of either my background or of a different Avenue line of work, and I have not had any luck

Got hired during covid and had the contract written up that I would remain remote.
That is smart
I guess I got kind of lucky because I wasn't necessarily looking for remote, I just happened to apply for a job that was remote. I wasn't even honestly sure if I would like it when I first started, I thought I had to be in an office in order to be productive. Turns out I love it and could never go back to the office.
Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself ... We aren't judging you, were sure you're REALLY productive @ home....
Whatever helps you sleep at night .... And if you don't sleep at night, you can always sleep during the day, at work ...

“Oh btw we’re remote”
Nice
Ha! Well that worked out perfectly
I hear you—landing a remote job can feel like an uphill battle, especially when you’re doing everything right and still getting turned down. It’s tough when it seems like everyone else has cracked the code.
For me, what made the difference was stepping away from the traditional route and joining AO Globe Life. It’s a fully remote opportunity where you don’t have to jump through endless hoops just to maybe get hired. We help you get licensed, provide full training, and your success is based on effort, not filters or keywords.
If you’re open to something different that actually gives you a fair shot, I’d be happy to share more!
I would like to get more information
Mine was pretty simple. I wanted to work from home and I saw a remote customer service job for medical scheduling on indeed I applied for it. It was like the second or third time I had applied to that same company. I just put down Customer Service experience because I do have that I have healthcare experience at medical scheduling experience. I just put all of these things down got an interview through indeed And it was actually after Covid Covid hit in March. I started working remotely in November 2020
My first remote job was initially an on-site role, but changed to remote around 2015. I was a remote scorer for Pearson and absolutely loved it, and did it seasonal .
There are legitimate remote roles all over the country, I go directly to the company website to verify it's real, and they are actually hiring for whatever role is posted, and also check other sites as well. Many people have worked remote jobs well before Covid like in Accounting, or Payroll for example.
Agree. Direct to company website is the only way imo.
Covid
The pandemic is what forced the remote work and once the all clear was given we remained WFH. Most of us go into the office on a regular basis a couple of times a month or travel to a company “hub” for larger team meetings. Although, the recruiters who have reached out lately have offered up remote and/or hybrid opportunities. I’d look at the tech sector.
I got in the field through a temp agency. Have you tried that route?
No, but that is a thought
I’ve been working remote 15 years and I went from an internal job to a remote one. Everyone wants to remote you have to stand out some way you have to have a niche skill.
One thing I learned quick when I was job hunting is that remote jobs get substantially more applicants than an on-site job does. Based on that it gets harder and harder to be recognized. One thing that helps is to work on or get a certification for the exact things the company needs…..be a perfect match will help you get to the top of the heap.
Asked to be remote before I even applied. My coworker started there, they needed more people, I applied and handled paperwork in one day. Had 1 interview with everyone present in office. They hired me immediately and then Covid started and we all stayed remote, entire department. Been remote for 6 years now, can’t go back in office and I love it.
I understand the struggles to get remote job, my husband has been looking for more than 2 years now. If someone has recommendations of companies who are seriously hiring, please drop it under my comment. Best of luck everyone!
COVID got me remote. I was in office 4 days and working from home one day before COVID. After they started having us return to the office, it was 1 day a month, then one day every 2 weeks and finally 1 day a week. Not sure if they are back to 4:1 schedule yet. Got layed off in December.
My job wasn’t supposed to be remote, I just happened to get hired in October of 2020 and we were supposed to return to the office March 2021, you know because Covid was done but here we are in 2025. Only because of President T, that we are in office again.

I've been mostly remote since the pandemic. I fell into it and adjusted my life to it and it's been my preferred method of working. The flexibility is good for my health, my wallet, and my overall well-being. I'd be open to a few days a week in office, but I'm largely off it for full time in office work.
Covid. So, blind luck.
I found mine on TheMomProject.com. First time in years of reading their job listings that I applied and I got lucky. I read the listing, highlighted the spots on my resume that assigned, and sent it in. 4 rounds of interviews later and I was made an excellent offer.
The companies using that site are serious about making a hire from TMP because they charge A LOT if a hire is made through their site (almost as expensive as a private recruiter but with none of perks - like prescreening - of using a recruiter.)
