THANK YOU! Just recently got promoted over another team member who has been here 2 years longer than me. It was deeply upsetting to him (understandably) but I know that they just saw more potential/effort in the work that I've been doing. Trying really hard not to feel like a DEI manager, and I really don't think I am. But I could use all the tips as I transition into this role.

Congratulations 🥳🥳🥳
You got the job because you were the right person for it, until someone that was part of making that decision tells you otherwise - you got the job because you were the right person. Everyone else’s thoughts, including your inner critic - do not matter. Respectfully 😉
Another way to look at it is, even if you ARE a DEI manager, you will be the best DEI manager they’ve ever seen! 🙌🏾
You’ve got this!
I give more anecdotal takes on the subject on my podcast about the same subject too. You can skip straight to the chapter on jealousy or listen to the whole thing.
Basically don’t let that person’s feelings stop you from doing your job. Be kind, be fair, be consistent, and transparent, but do not shrink. Ever.
You’ve got this! 🙌🏾
