For any parents, are you discussing DEI with your school aged children. Not younger children but maybe those 12-18. Are they aware of how DEI can play a role in their education now or even going into college?

Yes, I tell my children they should be ashamed because are white.

We have Joe Rogan celebrating the return of the r-word as a "culture victory".

I don't know why you think this is about you, your skin color, and your identity. It isn't.

I would actually start very young.

There's all sorts of ways to discuss DEI with little kids.

The dogs we see at Target are guide dogs in training. They are working and when we see a guide dog, we don't interrupt their work.

Those scooters at the store are for people who have a difficult time buying groceries because of health issues. We're healthy and don't need them. It would be rude to use a cart we don't need.

Oh, your classmate doesn't celebrate Christmas? That's fine. I bet they have some other, interesting things they do at other times instead.

Why? My kids were raised to accept everyone's beliefs from day one, and we grew up in a very diverse area, so people that were very different than them was normal. There's no reason to have a special discussion about DEI any more than there is a need to tell them not to kill or steal.

smart

I tell my child to not be defined by their skin color and put their best foot forward in all situations and endeavors…is that the same thing?

Nope.

First-year tax staff that started end of Q3, and just had my first year-end performance evaluation meeting. Still a blank slate in terms of tax experience, but I honestly do have a slight interest in international tax. Brought it up and I was given some names to find some work opportunities in that area. Besides SALT, any other specialized areas I should try to get some experience in? Also open to any tips and tricks to help tailor my workflow and experiences for the months to come.

So I worked from home yesterday and my husband had a sneak peak on my meetings with clients (which I’m very new to being a senior). He mention that I should read some sales pitch books of some sorts so I can get a process down and not be drain from having genuine conversations with every client. I think it’s a great idea. Hi - I am a career pivot from higher education into tech and have final round interviews for a DEI Coordinator role (which I'm super excited for). I am meeting with three people that I would be partnering with for the job and it was shared with me that these interviews will mainly be behavioral as well as questions on my technical skills. Does anyone have any resources to help me prepare for this? Anything is greatly appreciated!

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. For context I’ve been in company less than a year and there are people who have been in the company 25yrs. I’m thinking of cutting loose before it gets to my turn.

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great!
