For mid level positions, when did the comp range get somewhat specific? The posted range on this one is so wide that I honestly don’t know what the employer is really targeting.

Lazy HR trying to comply with state law that requires posting salaries. What you’re seeing is probably the company’s entire permissible pay band for that role.

like

Is the role being offered as remote? If so you can probably use your current location to narrow down the band.
Assume if you’re in the highest COL areas you’d be on the high end and low COL the low end.
If you have all the YOE requires you should be at least at the middle—with more experience moving you towards the higher end.
Unfortunately, you’re probably going to need to at least talk to a screener to get better numbers. But also try to use what data points you do have to come up with a target within the band and be able to justify why you’re at that range.

Red flags. Comp shouldn’t be some elusive secret. Especially after 1-2 interviews. In many jurisdictions they’re required to tell you—but you have to ask specifically.
Even if you’re not in one of those jurisdictions you should probably ask for a narrowed range.
They’re grilling you on your experience and fit for the role you have a right to find out the most important information

Can anyone help me wrap my head around this post Series C start-up equity offer? It’s an IP director position, the the base is $170 with 10% bonus (both lower than I was expecting). There’s also an equity component: 0.15% of current fully diluted equity. This equates to about 30000 shares at a strike price of $2. They also indicate the preferred stock price is $6 and preferred stock equity is $188k (whatever that means). They are in the middle of a new financing and valuation round.

Got a temp offer for less than a year without promise of turning into full-time. Wanted to know what ppl think about temp jobs (looks bad on resume if I don't turn full-time later within the company?) and what comp should look like (e.g. 1.2× of regular comp?).

Got another perm offer in a different industry for similar salary, but I might have to relocate and I'm concerned the work may involve translation instead of pure legal work.

Any in-house antitrust counsel willing to offer up some advice? I just started in a firm's well-regarded antitrust group. What do I do over the next few years to make myself most marketable to move in-house? And when is that move actually feasible/ideal for antitrust specialists?

Seems like I can pull work from the whole discipline (merger clearance, civil lit, criminal) — should I spread myself across all of it to maximize my skillset/marketability?

All thoughts and advice welcome. TYSM :)
