For those in client-facing roles, how do you keep the wealth envy from affecting your job performance? I work in wealth management and I’m starting to feel like a glorified therapist for people who make ten times my salary. I spend my days listening to billionaires complain about their struggles while I’m trying to figure out how to maximize my own 401k match..

Invest where you are and beyond it. Maximize your 401k, maximize your role, and don’t let your salary be the ceiling on your ambition.

If you’ve got goals calling your name, let purpose be your fuel and discipline be your pace. Envy fades when you’re in motion. Stay locked in, stay building, and get so consumed with your own elevation that comparison doesn’t even get a seat at your table.

When I started as an FA I had been a teacher for 2 decades and never had money troubles. Yes, I had to get a second job when I first started, but I did not see that as a big deal. I got my Masters, and lived fine.
Then I started as an FA where I had to listen to rich people and pretend to care about their "problems." All I heard was out of touch people complaining about their privilege not being as big as it should be and having no gratitude for their positions in life or their blessings. I could not relate to their stories.
Luckily I was able to change firms to one that focusses on the middle class. Now I feel like I am actually helping people and making a difference. I do not earn what I could have at the other firm, but I will not complain about that because I willingly took the trade-off, plus I am still in the mid 6-figures, so I am still blessed to live this life.
If you are young, maybe stick it out because you are building a career and need good experience. Otherwise, if you have the experience, look for new opportunities that better match what you are looking for. Life is too short to have a job you do not enjoy.
Also, do not compare yourself to others as comparison is the thief of joy.

I am expecting an offer from Master Card for Senior Software Engineer position in O Fallon MO. Please let me know what kind of base salary I can expect with 11 yrs experience . I don’t wanna undersell but also trying to avoid being aggressive but quote a decent number which will be achievable. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Is 125k $ base a fair value for or I can pitch higher? They have a 15 to 20 % bonus on top of base pay and a 10% match on 401k which the recruiter keep highlighting.

⚠️Toxicity Alert ⚠️

My previous manager would track us by hours daily, made a fuss everytime anything stretched and guilt us for that and the unplanned leave too unless it was COVID. Hinted him a lot of time, this is problematic but apparently he considered it "standard practice for agile".

Now 8/10 teammates have switched within < 1 year of project start (6-7 months with him) which tbh had good work in our opinion and even team was fun to work with even though none of us ever met in person.

At what point does the value of a degree fall off? I'm in my early 30s, and have five years of experience, and work on a very theoretically interesting project. I believe I'm on track to promotion in the next year. So, I could put in a year of full time school to check the box off, but I'd be sacrificing hobbies and social life (not to mention cost). Is this FOMO or is there real opportunity here?

How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

Is anybody here a notary? And how much are you making from that? Is it a potential side-hustle?
