I got a very fair comp adjustment and have been reaching out to take on more work. I feel fairly treated again and have the drive to work towards a director promotion again. Feels nice tbh…. And yeah I know shocker that if you pay your people fairly they’re happier
It's a pretty fluid process. I'm usually not trying to stack on things when my dance card is full because that just leads to diluted contributions on my part.
At the same time, the nature of my job is that there is a pretty rapid cycle of new deals, existing delivery, and contributions back to my practice, so I'm not against taking on new things if they'll come to maturity as other things wane / come off the plate.
More to your question - I should clarify that I'm still pretty growth motivated, but at this stage it's less about taking on a greater volume of work to demonstrate that growth, and more about building long-term relationships, developing our people, and shaping how we do work. These are less sheer time / energy plays and much more about being strategic and honestly protecting time just to think and develop ideas.

I don’t think being content at one’s level is possible in consulting until making Partner/Managing Director. You keep rising or you find a new job.
I’m pretty happy with my current comp, though. And I’ll be happy with more.
I am content with my compensation and level and hoping to cut back to part time in about 2 years. That said, I am happy to take on interesting work and like to always be super busy as boring and mindless work day after day makes for very long days.
It ebbs and flows. I’m certainly more selective (as much as I can be given there are times I’m asked to take something on specifically). I focus on making sure the extra work is interesting at least.
