I told HR I'm lonely and she isn't there for me
If the new firm actually has more to offer you, then you can explain that. Reasonable moves are easy to understand. If you gave up your internal network at your current firm for a salary bump, just move on and realize you’ll have to rebuild everything at the new place if you plan to make PPMD.
Leaving for a 30% increase and working under an old mentor so luckily won’t have to rebuild reputation from scratch
I just told my counselor that I’d be putting in my notice and was going to another firm. They understood. The new firm had a local team that was a better fit for my interests and they couldn’t argue with that.
Treat it as a business decision. New firm has opportunities old does not. Thank them for their support, let them know you’ll assist in transitions to fulfill your two weeks, and wish them well. Don’t go scorched earth, PA is a small world.
Do not give more than 2 weeks notice unless you can afford to potentially go without a paycheck. Plenty of stories of staff giving more than 2 weeks notice to try and be respectful and caring, only for the firm to dismiss them immediately.
Agreed it shouldn’t be a secret. Tell them we’re you’re going, leave on good terms, and stay in touch incase the new gig doesn’t work out. I don’t think anyone is going to be petty enough to reach out to the new place (unless you’re leaving on bad terms or a bad performer)
That you’re seeking new opportunities. You don’t need to go into details, people leave all the time to different firms. Don’t need to mention money as being the factor (I assume it is, but there are probably large issues in play).
Yeah that’s what i was thinking is to be vague and just say i got a new opportunity that better aligns with my long term goals and a new challenge, etc and not mention any specifics.
Try not to overshare, use more vague terms like it aligns more with your career goals. Maybe proximity is important, maybe you want to diversify the industries you work on. Honestly once you put your notice, unless you’re a top performer they aren’t going to try and keep you.
