For those who pay attention to cryptocurrencies and are not bitcoin maximalists, which altcoins do you think are doing the best work in terms of useful innovations?

Show me one decentralised & censorship resistant altcoin. Innovation is easy when you don’t have censorship resistance as a trade off to efficiency.

like

Are you saying you want to see more censorship resistant altcoin features? If so, which ones?

If you are just cheerleading bitcoin, then I understand the bitcoin maximalist position. Not everyone agrees with that point of view. Your bitcoin cheerleading is duly noted.

One jab in return though. What is the primary use case of bitcoin, today? Store of value? No. Purchasing goods and services? No. The correct answer is speculation, and a very large part of that is buying/trading altcoins. If altcoins went away, so would a big chunk of the demand for and holding of bitcoin.

funny

Iota will do nothing. The corporate partnerships mean nothing. It’s completely centralised & needs a coordinator powered by the iota foundation to even function, doesn’t have aligned incentives from a game theoretic perspective & has the most unqualified leadership team

like

IOTA will power the internet of things. Fast free transactions and already have a ton of corporate partnerships

like

Censor-resistant alt coins there are plenty of them, no one can prevent you from holding or sending many of them - bitcoin let the cat of the bag, billions of people now can have access to financial instruments and can’t easily have governments shut down their accounts if at all.

This is the purpose.

like

I’m with you on decentralization and putting financial instruments outside easy government control. I’m more asking about utility though. Simple transfer payments is there for almost any cryptocurrency. I’d like to understand things like which wallets give the best UX, wallet features which you think are useful, distinguishing blockchain features you think are useful, and other features that provide real utility beyond simple payment transfers.

Smart contracts is obvious but I’d ask the next level down on that—of the altcoins that have smart contracts, which are developing or have deployed useful features beyond the basic EVM that they all likely share at this point as a baseline capability.

Useful integrations are also great answers, either with 3rd party products/services that add utility to the altcoin’s ecosystem, or other products they have built around the core wallet that are useful.

Status.im, neblio, rchain, etc. for now at least

What features do you like that they have implemented?

What do you like about chainlink?

Cap, what are you trying to achieve. Go to coin market cap. Start at top you’ll find multiple in top 25 blockchains, what are you looking for though a smart contract platform, enterprise blockchain or... asking about a coin instead of a company or neutral foundation all influence an answer to this....

I am doing cryptocurrency work, and think this group of people is a smart bunch so I’m looking for your input. I’m NOT looking for investment ideas.

I spend most of my time managing my team and building, and have not found enough time to thoroughly research hundreds of projects, especially when many of them are doing little to no useful innovation at all.

We have our own blockchain and working products live, and an ambitious roadmap in place, but I’m always on the lookout for features people find useful, whether they are from a user friendliness, functionality, user traction, or other perspectives.

I’m fully aware it depends on the use case, but I can easily filter the ideas that are or are not relevant to the use cases we are pursuing. What I’m interested in is what smart people like those on FB think are useful innovations for me to research further.

Saying start at #1 on CMC and work your way down is not an optimal strategy, since much of that is based on network effects, ICO investment and other factors completely unrelated to technical innovation. That would also only be my perspective, and I value other perspectives from people I think are likely to be smarter than average about what is useful and what is not.

If just a alt coin, then you can also find some...what are you hoping to not censor financial transactions or other data ...

I've tried hard but land back at Bitcoin and some of the projects happening on top Ethereum. For eg the last 6 months have been experimenting alot with maker dao and think that what they're trying to do is pretty interesting. In a way its quite symbiotic with the ETH ecosystem. Maker allows you to create credit to enable inflation (which if responsibly done is not bad) and also creates a velocity sink for ETH. That said I still hold like 3/4 of my portfolio in BTC.

Manager 1 - iota is not Blockchain - lots of issues we’ll see

My issue with iota is exactly how this will actually work with the IoT. Many of these devices would not have the resources to run a full or even light node blockchain client. That’s on top of things like having to upgrade the blockchain software on thousands or millions of devices as soft and hard forks happen.

I’d like to understand what exactly they envision installing on a smart light switch or light bulb or something similarly inexpensive and simple.

Theta token!

Theta was created to solve an actual problem (streaming costs) that its parent startup (sliver.tv) ran into while delivering data intensive live streaming. It’s a legitimate team that’s originally already had a series A round from well-known VCs. It’s focused on a niche market (live streaming VR gaming) that is well-poised for growth and its target market is focused unlike the majority of coins out there promising to “change the world”. Anyone that’s done a startup knows you have to start small and focus on a niche market before trying to revolutionize an entire industry. (Amazon started out with books, Facebook started out with college students)

Also anything Ethereum layer 2 is worth watching, especially the ZK rollup and Optimistic rollup projects
