Sorry to hear. My dad, single at the time, was laid off during the auto crisis (factory worker) and I was a high school student. Nothing I can say will make it better. Apply broad and wide to jobs and, if nothing pans out at the moment, remember that no job is beneath you. This is a temporary set back, not long term. Keep applying, but more importantly, remember that you’re young, this is a minor setback although a crappy one - you have so much life ahead of you. Be there for your dad, he’ll need it. Look into unemployment benefits and retraining programs for him. And just be his emotional rock, dads often show their hearts far less than they feel.
Really sorry to hear that. I’m assuming it’s Strategy& - this also just happened to my friend straight out of MBA
Just happened to me, too, at S&. 10 months out of MBA. No warning or heads up. Purely related to demand. Also in Consumer Markets
I’m sorry!! That’s horrible! If you want to stay in Consulting apply to another firm! They’ll all take you!
Feel free to DM for a referral to D!We’re hiring like crazy and love talent!
Been in your shoes. You will use this experience to guide you through greater successes and meaningful experiences. I know it’s especially tough with parents losing jobs at that age. My dad was in a similar situation and it’s very debilitating to be laid off that late in life. Luckily he probably has invaluable exp + skills that would be an asset at any company. Gov jobs are generally a bit easier to attain at that age. See if he has skills that fit into such a role I wish you and him the best and while I know that this is truly a difficult time, I am confident that you and he will come up the other side stronger and better for it.
Where are you located OP? I can refer ya to the DC area.
10 months out of undergrad isn’t indicative of your performance - it’s the firm’s crappy planning. You’ll find something amazing and will bounce back (I’m willing to bet with higher pay).
And this could be a bonding experience for you and your dad - be sure and talk about how you feel to him, as I’m sure he’ll feel needed and appreciated when you ask him for advice.
Good luck OP. We’re rooting for you!
We are also hiring in NYC, Chicago and other cities. Check out our site for openings
I am sorry to hear that, keep your head up, everything happens for a reason!
Sorry to hear that, all the best OP
Feel free to check our site for openings and DM for any referral needs
Don’t feel helpless. You will probably get a raise out of this. But get motivated and start looking ASAP
If no prior performance issue was raised with you, you need to take some steps to protect your future. Record your conversation with HR and any partners. Make sure you raise the point about not being notified of poor performance earlier and ask why it wasn’t raised before (if that is truly the case). Send email summarizing the facts of the conversation to all attendees and CC your personal email (not BCC). Do not sign any documents they give you during your exit. If they threaten you with ability to claim any benefits, it’s your choice whether you want to take that risk, but record that conversation too or find a way to get that in writing (which would prove some degree of retaliation or quid pro quo). Call an employment attorney right away.
Hang in there OP. Better days ahead
Keep your head up!
DM for a referral - not sure on your specialty, level, location, and travel % but happy to refer
It’s disgusting that large organizations take advantage of people not knowing employment laws and assume they’ll exert pressure to get away with it based on their stupid “mandatory arbitration” and “non compete” clauses...
