The store employees aren’t sourcing/supply chain managers….
“Currently our system says backordered until X date and in the mean time there will be no delivery at our location. However X location appears to have X in their inventory, I recommend visiting X or give them a call to confirm” lol how’s that?
Most store employees have absolutely no idea what something is going to come in and probably don't have the ability to find out. Most companies have a big separation between counter staff and corporate offices.
Exactly, that should not be an answer to a customer. I don't understand how you are still allowed to give that answer.
I don't like it when employees get snarky like this... I think they can always check their inventory or at the very least be aware of when new shipments are coming in.
While I do understand your frustration, I've been on both ends of this stick and let me tell you, it is not easy to deal with rude customers. You kind of just have to deal with what you're given and if you complain, you could lose your job.
Was this a regular employee or a manager/supervisor? I don't think I would expect regular employees who work a couple shifts a week to keep track on all the incoming product shipments, however, a manager may be the one keeping track, so try asking them instead!

I used to be a store manager at the red store. As many have already commented, employees have limited visibility outside of “it’s on the next truck,” “the store x miles down has some,” or “we don’t know.” The amount of time they are having to answer that question would drive a person mad!
I remember summer my store ran out of Ketchup and Mustard right before the 4th of July. People lost their minds! Any escalation to get any more product than what was deployed to our location would fall on deaf ears.
