That is nuts. The partner told you that or manager? On the one hand I would think about doing it to keep things cool in case I wanted to come back. On the other I wouldn’t want to come back to work for a team that acts like this.
OP will get blamed and won’t be hired back if something goes wrong, so still not worth it. And if ethics mean anything to you, you don’t eat time.
Well you would be charging time but probably only working at 15-25% capacity as you slide by, so I kind of understand them...
They are probably already over budget and trying to help their margins. That’s BS though. Tell the partner or talent consultant.
The partner needs to know. They have the ability to write that time off. They don’t have to bill it to the client.
I was told the same thing when I left PwC...
Do not eat time. You have no obligation to follow that instruction. Your ethical responsibility is to not eat the time.
And a major reason to not eat time is so that people know how much it actually costs to do the project for future budgeting reasons.
