Tell your recruiters to ask the right questions. I never get any questions about my experience. All the recruiters ever want to know is if I’m free starting the next day and what my day rate is so they can knock a couple hundred off of it. A good CD is easy to pick out with a simple 5 minute conversation about their experience. That said! I am one! I’d love to help you out managing or running a piece of business.
I agree with CD1 that it sounds like there is a disconnect somewhere in the conversations your recruiters might be having. I am primarily freelance with some solid management experience and have been doing this long enough that my CD level rate is justified. And I’m even flexible on that rate depending on the gig.
Just focus in the big picture CCO, don't blame the CD's. If the place is tanking creatively it's your fault ultimately. And for the record, great CD's are more memorable than CCO's in the long run.
^I feel like you’re assuming a good creative makes for a good boss, which is a huge mistake
Hey it wouldn’t hurt if they could prove they’re a decent CW or ad. I’ve had some cds who were decent managers but had absolutely terrible taste.
Sc1 - I want both. A good creative who is a good manager too.
