Start looking for another job.
It’s not quite the kiss of death but you have a long road ahead of you to getting over the hump and completely putting it in your (and importantly leaderships) rear view mirror at D. I would strongly consider leaving
Usually you get some slack for first year...how bad could it have been? What practice are you in?
OP, so if you’re utilized and have initiatives, what was the reason for PIP? There must have been an incident responsible for this. If it was a people issue, sometimes it is hard to come back from. If quality, easier. So take a step back and look at the root cause and it’s impact on your brand.
Find another project, assuming you are on the beach now (might be harder now), network and have leadership back you and obviously step up. I know countless people who had a 4 their first year and came back from it. The first year is often the hardest at D.
D2 is absolutely right. I know plenty who have bounced back from a 4 and have had/continue to have a great career at Deloitte.
Performance Improvement Plan
I had a 4 last year as an SC and then got a 2 this year and was promoted to M. I was worried that I wouldn’t make my promotion year. I just made sure I completed and tracked all of the items in my PIP and set the expectation that I wanted to be off of it within 3 months. My counselor had to give status to Talent every month and then they both agreed I could be removed from it after 3 months. You can do it!
Start looking, but if I were you I'd make them fire me. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of leaving on my own
Manager 1 : why ? Please elaborate .
What is PIP?
What level are you and how long have you been with D?
Leave
Deloitte 1 : it’s been 1.3 years and at C level
Above 100% utilization with multiple initiatives n still on PIP is obvious red flags that ur superiors don’t value ur contribution at all. PIP is almost considered a polite way of saying not firing you right now, but we’re thinkin abt it. N this is the time for u to find a different job.
I think it depends.. agree many have come back from a 4 to be strong performers. I would try really to understand what you need to work on, discussing this with your counselor and current manager. Reflect on what you need to do and whether you think you can get there before making a rash decision to leave. Often the challenge is getting staffed after you have a 4, which makes it hard to work on your development priorities. So if you’re staffed and have good util, that puts you in a good position to turn things around. Suggest you focus on 1 max 2 initiatives outside client stuff because client is where you should be focusing your time (assuming your PIP feedback relates to project performance). Good luck!
