I just started an investment network for angels/accredited investors to get connected with startups and small businesses. We have 20 pitches and many more building pitches, but struggling to onboard accredited investors. Anyone have any advice/ideas for outreach?? Really passionate and willing to work any channel to expand our network. Thanks you!

Hey guys, I'm an ex-Bain consultant building a presentation app that shows ways to visualize insights clearly and quickly. We turn blanks into 60% WIP materials in seconds and have an early demo at depiction.ai - would love to hear what ya'll think! Brutally honest feedback would be much appreciated.

Impressive - I wish I could pull that off. Can you share a bit about your approach in landing the new startup gig so quickly? Did you begin interviewing with the startup right after joining or were you already in the process with them when you accepted Kpmg?
Honestly they reached out to me online. I came from a very high ranked CS school and had 4 internships, so I’ve had a bit under my belt, but still you’re right for a startup the offer blew me away and I’m thankful. Also they reached out once I was at KPMG. I work in the light house branch
You’re getting a lot of people who look at the short tenure at KPMG as a red flag, and it’s true that you’ll burn the bridge there by leaving so soon. However, you don’t need to keep KPMG on your resume or explain this to any future employers.
LinkedIn and resumes are marketing documents. Once you leave, scrub any reference to your short stay at KPMG as the experience won’t help you get future jobs. You’ll need to disclose it if you ever apply for a job that requires clearance, but otherwise you’re free to pretend it never happened.
Do it.
Any advice as to why?
Hang on. 2 months? I’m all about chasing money, but unless your boss is sexual harassing you or some other egregious thing, you will look like a massive red flag.
Doubly so for leaving a renown and well established company for an unknown. It will look not only like you’re chasing dollars, but also, more importantly, that you couldn’t hack it. That you left because working hard (and yes I know big 4 are sweatshops) was too much.
You’ll be a red flag because you’ll look flighty and like a slacker. As a hiring manager, I would trash your resume without bothering to find out.
Yeah I completely disagree with C1. I’m a former recruiter and I would have been more likely to see the move as passion-based.
OP - if you’re ever asked about this, I’d recommend painting the picture of “I got this great job but then had an opportunity fall into my lap that I was incredibly passionate about”. That way it remains a positive story about both employers, which makes you look good!
2 months is a fine time to leave. Either leave it off your resume or say it just wasn’t a good cultural fit. Take the money.
Honestly that’s a decent offer. I’m running the finance team at this start up and I’m at 130 base, up to 25k bonus, 9k vest per year

Perfect. Thank for you that. Awesome way to put it
Go. You seem to not have strong feelings about working for KPMG. This is the time.
Id take the new role even with the equity they gave you. If you feel strongly about getting more equity, let them know why and what value you think youre bringing. Although be prepared for them to tell you that in exchange of more equity, they might offer you less on actual cash compensation. its a tradeoff. I have to say though that getting tenure with KPMG will help you more in the long run.
Literally that’s my exact thought too. I’d basically be stepping into a CTO position at 22. Some dreams just have to wait though. I think a year at KPMG will provide me a good backdrop especially given that I’m in one of our top service lines.
Mentor
If KPMG came back and matched the raise would you stay? If so, I wouldn’t leave - whether they matched or not. At this stage of career it’s not about the money. It’s about doing something that you love and creates a great foundation for your career.
If you love the smaller company and are super passionate about I, then take the job. You can remove the KPMG experience entirely from resume in future if you think it looks like perceived job hopping
