Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?
Looking for some book recommendations :)

Go through your contract carefully and possibly consult with an employment lawyer. The non-compete might be unenforceable depending on your state laws (or if they fired you).

You can’t enforce a noncompete if fired
This^. Also most non competes are unenforceable. Especially if they fired you.
Lawyer up & apply to all their biggest competitors.
Yes, definitely look into the state laws where you are at, here in CA non-competes are most-likely not going to be enforced, but not quite illegal. You pretty much have to be trying to leverage you old companies IP and trade secrets at a direct competitor, but they can't keep you from finding a new job in the same industry.

Why did you get fired

What did you do, OP?
Fired or laid off? Apply for unemployment and read up on it
I don’t get it. How can they make you NOT work for someone if you don’t work for them anymore lol. How on earth is this even legal
Non-competes are quasi-unenforceable. Lawyer up, go through your contract.
I was laid off I guess. Not fired.
Rising Star
Lol what do you mean I guess? Big difference, Manager
If you were laid off, I imagine it might be enforceable for the period equivalent to your severance package, but only if the non-compete is very specific. Beyond that period, I can't imagine it is enforceable since they chose to end your employment
Honestly don’t even know. They told me “my last day at the firm would be end of aug”. They didn’t say laid off or fired. No severance was given but they essentially didn’t make me do any work the last 3 weeks.
Sounds like fired then vs laid off. Sorry about this. Wish you all the best.
So if fired can they encore it ?
Depends on state law, and the specific language in the non-compete.
